If The Batman stuff wasn't included on the Hits album for copywrite reasons...

...then why were the B-sides 200 Baloons and I Love U in me included? Remember they could have replaced them with other missing B-sides such as love left, love right.

what copyright laws kept them off the hits. DC Comics is owned by WB. WB, in turn owns both WB records and films. can you elabortae on this claim?

There's no samples from the movie in those tracks - it is assumed it is due to the samples in the Batman era singles that they were not included.

so they presumably would've had to pay Tim Burton or somebody a few pence too.

It's because only the album itself (and its songs) were officially liscensed in association with the BATMAN film-- the B-sides of the singles were only lingering on the fringes-- freebies, if you will.

I can't see what the inclusion of two B-side songs which had coupled on singles with material also contained on the Batman soundtrack album necessarily has to do with a copyright matter.

Well was'nt the 200 Baloons song directly related to events occuring in the Batman movie, otherwise what sense would that track make. It was also supposed to be the title track at one stage until they discovered it was super shite and replaced it with na na na na na na na na
Batdance.

200 Balloons was originally written for the film, but was rejected by DC and so became the B-side of Batdance. Since it has nothing to do with the film, there is no copyright issue. The copyright issue with DC is the use of DC's characters ("Vicki Waiting") and samples from the film itself ("Batdance").

Well it kinda does have something to do with the film if U remember the scene where Hack Nicholson tries to murder everyone in Gotham by releasing all those Balloons. Anyway the original Batman movie was the best.
"Some days U just can't get rid of a Bomb" - Adam West.

But in fairness to Mr. Squirrel DC don't own the copywrite to the word Balloon.

Sorry, can't speel.
