Well, I'm a straight guy...my friends always made fun on me sayin Prince is gay...but they never thought I was...they treated me like "Oh, U're blind...u're the only one that can't see he's gay"...I used 2 mind...not anymore...but I read some replies here of boys with a self-testosterone-affirmation speech, that when I read between the lines, I swear I can hear Village People's "Macho Man" smile

Well, they say every man has a female side...mine is lesbian! smile

Add one more straight guy to the list.

My friends used to give me a hard time about being such a hardcore Prince fan, and some of them still do. I watched the Lakers game with some friends of mine last Thursday and when they showed a glimpse of Prince, all my friends let me have it. But I guess that's their problem.....

Am I black or white...am I straight...or gay.

I'm straight...not that there is anything wrong with that!

Who gives a @%&%!!! I just don't get society's obsession with it anyway. Whatever two consenting adults want to do within the bounds of legality let 'em do it. I'm too concerned about how I'm going to get money to pay my next mortgage payment to worry about who is doing the hippity dippity with who.
All good things they say never last...

The vast majority of Prince fans worldwide are in fact straight men. The original assumption I find quite strange. Besides - most Prince fans are attracted to his music not his looks.

Simply put, the amount of records Prince has sold cannot be explained with a mostly gay fanbase. Besides, I've never met a gay Prince fan in my life.

Obviously all you people are very young. I'm 36, gay, and have been a Prince fan from his beginning. All through the early 80s, Prince fans have always been straight males. His music was too hard for females. Females have always been into ballads. Prince has some of the baddest ballads around but the majority of his music is hard. After "Purple Rain", he changed his musical style drastically. That drove away a lot of his male fans, especially the black ones.

When the 90s came around, hip hop took over. Most of the men my age, me included, listen to radio stations that play old music but the younger men listen to hip hop. Hip hop is considered the "hard" music of today. I don't know why, it never gets faster than midtempo. Anyway, don't get me started on a talentless form of "noise" like hop hop or I will be here all day.

Being in the gay scene, all the gay men I know are into house music exclusively. When they listen to mainstream music, it is something weak like Whitney Houston...don't get me started on that bitch either, she is a rhythmless bitch who paved the way for this damn ballad era we are living in now.

You people are looking at the mainstream crowd that is buying music now. Prince fans have always been straight males. Straight males like the hard jams and in this day and age, hip hop is what is considered hard. These new artists now would have been booed off the stage in the early 80s, the music is too damn slow.

That would be IYO - I am 40 and have been a prince listener since he started. Music should not be used to pigeon hole a person - black/white/purple/green/straigt/gay - Prince's music touches the soul - what we are deep within - and that is way he has such a large following of people. Oh and by the way - I am female and don't feel I am in the minority or have ever been.

Straight Male here and a devoted Prince fan. I know a great deal of straight men that are Prince fans. We must remember that a consumate musician is under that androgynous appearance. I honestly feel that most straight men that appreciate music also appreciate Prince's massive talents. As someone stated earlier in the thread, Prince is a man's man. Good with the ladies, immaculate musician and suave as hell. His ballads have always struck a chord with the women I've dated and he has been a mood setter on many evenings.

Oh my, I have known a few Prince fans in my day. They were all different, sex, race... I am a white female that has always enjoyed Prince's music and talents, not just the ballads either. The hard core stuff too. I think he touches many people of all types because he has a great spirit and soul that comes out in what he does. Whenever I am sad, happy, angry or at PEACE, I listen to him and always hear something new. Even after listening to a song for years, depending on my mood, I always hear something new from his music. He is great and I will always be a fan even after he is no longer making music here on earth. Besides, he must be cool, his b-day is a day before mine- :Gemini:

okay, women have ALWAYS been huge prince fans from the beginning. Black males, suchas myself are really into the ballads for lovemaking purposes. Adore is the Black baby making anthem. some dont really care for his more rock n roll side. Gay men love prince too, because he is Macho without being Macho. He appears to be gay but he has enough masculine attributes that him wearing high heeled shoes, mascara and makeup doesnt
seem gay. if any other man put on high heels and mascara, no one would have any doubts about that persons sexual orientation. He would be considered gay. Prince has fans from all across the spectrum...just go to a concert.

I know there are more straight male fans than you may be able to see because many of them have insecutitird about how their masculinity will be perceived for liking Prince. I never hid or down played my love for Prince's work and I endured some of the questionable looks and stupid comments about my sexuality because of the questions around Prince's sexuality back in the early 80s. Being pretty as hell didnt help me either.

But I remember taking macho man friends from the high school football team to a Controversy show and I noticed those guys always wanted me to play Lady Cab Driver on my boom box in the back of the school bus. They dug Prince but didnt want people to call them fags for admitting it.

Personally, being associated with Prince in my high school got my plenty of chicks. I had that 80s punk funk new wave look that no one else did and the chicks loved it. The 1999 album got me a ton of teenage booty in 1983.

Just one of the many reasons why I love Prince to this day.

It's an undisuted fact that NO Prince fans are straight males.
It's simply not possible.

LOL. wink

Actually, growing up gay and a Prince fan, I did assume that all of his male fans
were gay. But I was young and projecting. Overall, I think he has a much larger
male hetero following than gay.

razz He is sexy no matter what you are. Period. All of the guys who would tell me that he was gay when they found out I was a fan were all just jealous of him. I have never met a man nearly as sexy as Prince. I have met a women almost as sexy - that's a different story. She dug Prince almost as much as I did but she was gay. It don't matter, it's all good. I think any man or women who can see prince's talent and beauty is sexy.
