Crazy Prince - Madonna comparisons or associations!!! I just don't understand... What is it with these Prince - Madonna comparisons or associations???? I have seen alot of this on the ORG lately. The only comparisons of those two is in term of star power and thats where it ends...
This is the primary reason why music lovers outside of the Prince world are surprised when they really discover that Prince is a top-flight musician because of this stupid Madonna associations. I think it is sad when people mention Prince, they think of MJ or Madonna. Prince's abliities and capabilities deserve to be mentioned when you speak of Prince with Wonder, Clapton, Hendrix not freaking Madonna!!!! I do think it is a insult to his abilities. But a lot of it is Prince's fault, he has let his persona and eccentricites overwhelm peoples perception of him. When you say Prince, people say "oh he's wierd" "is he still that symbol thingy" Not, man what a outstanding musican.... "Say it Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud!!!" - Brother James Brown

I remember reading a Tom Petty site after the RRHOF performance. One Petty fan said he/she was blown away, and had always thought of Prince as another Michael Jackson, and nothing more. There's a lot of folks out there like that. But you're right in that it's partly Prince's fault. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Yes there two types in music you have Performers: Madonna MJ Janet, etc..... Musicians: Prince Stevie Wonder Eric Clapton Hendrix, etc..... The Musicians is where Prince belongs, but the amazing thing about Prince is that he has the versatility to transcend to the Performers group where only MJ can rival him. So performers like Madonna will never, ever be able to crossover to the Musicians group period..... "Say it Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud!!!" - Brother James Brown

When you say Prince, people say "oh he's wierd" "is he still that symbol thingy" Not, man what a outstanding musican.... You can't forget that at the height of his popularity, Prince was a POP STAR. There's nothing wrong with that. Yes, he was an unusally talented musician as a pop star, but a pop star nonetheless. He also happened to be sexually provocative, like fellow female pop star Madonna. They, along with MJ, defined much of the 80's musically and culturally. For those reasons, MANY people will continue to associate them forever, regardless of the different directions their lives and careers have taken. And there are plenty of areas of overlap in what Prince and Madonna do and have done, regardless of his obviously superior musicianship. I am a huge fan of both Prince and Madonna, and I enjoying comparing them. Heck, Madonna could kick his ass on guitar any day! But why do these comparisons bother you so much? http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Oddly enough, I think M and P have a lot in common, not just cuz they're from the Midwest. I don't think comparisons are warranted when it comes to the ACTUAL music or artistic prowess. We know who wins that competition, hands down, so no need to compare.
About my earlier thread, I think that me writing about Madonna's Warners woes was directly related to Prince's Warner woes...not to mention the fact that he had written to her, pleading her to leave Warners. That's as far as I will go with the comparisons. I've NEVER liked Madonna. I'm not a fan of hers at all. However, I do think it's interesting that Prince warned her that she was going to experience problems at Warners. The difference is that she seemed to be a little bit more willing to compromise, whereas P was not. And he SHOULDN'T have. I wouldn't change a thing about his fight, just that whole Symbolina thing...I'd change that aspect, but it's all good because P ended up on top anyway.

I enjoy Madonna's performance as I saw her during her Drowned World tour. Her guitar playing? SUCKED!!!!! She is simply trying to earn more credibility as a musician -- not really working, M! A prince never lacks legitimate reasons to break his promise.
