Marrying Kind sounds like Mint Condition The Marrying Kind sounds like it borrows heavily fom Mint Condition's "I Wonder If She Likes Me". I caught the groove resemblance the first time I heard the song, but after going back and listening to both songs, its VERY apparent. Its like Prince was listing to Mint Condition then went in the studio and wrote "The Marrying Kind" Vocally, they are different, but musically they bear the same feel/groove. Prince adds his "thing" to it, but the similarities are inescapable.
....and here come the flames...

Hmmm. I guess nobody on here is familiar with the Mint. Either that or everybody agrees. (yeah, right)

Are you sure it's not all just part of that Minneapolis sound?
I never heard the mint song.

I had a chance to audition for Mint Condition back in the early 90's. I wasn't impressed with them in the least. Especially since Dave (The LEADER!!) went to HS with me and never gave me the time of day. Then after the audition, he tries to hit on me and even though I was flattered (no reason to be mad, HS was a while ago), I was with someone. He was very unprofessional when I declined coffee, a drink, a snack, etc. The whole group just didn't seem like anything I wanted a part of. Plus, I know that I'm not a really strong singer, but I do have talent. It's funny how your talent diminishes when you don't want coffee. Put the spoon down honey, come on let mama feed you!

I feel you, Blaque. I haven't listened to Mint Condition in a long time, but it is possible that Prince may have peeped out their use of synth and guitar on some tracks and added his own flavor to it (like the classical arrangement at the end of the chorus. To me, that's 100% Prince, but the drums and bass do sound a little "Minty" .). Good post. I like "The Marrying Kind", especially the lyrics.

All I could get was a few seconds of it HERE. You'd need the whole song to get the full feel of the track. I've made mp3s for me to listen to, but I don't have a host site for them. Sorry.

Just can't hear the similarity. The song is completely weak though. Marrying Kind blows it away.

I disagree I think just the opposite. Plus, the song preceeded Marrying Kind by 13 years.

Yeah, Prince borrowed from it, it is clear the arrangments is very alike. But the mint song is kinda weak.
