prince in the uk

After purchasing the new album i was impressed to see it make number 3(UK) but it has now disappeared without a trace and it has me wondering if uk punters have a clue about good music.Morrisey from the group the smiths has done much better here in the single and album charts and this is pathetic as prince has more talent in one finger than this talentless englishman.the only talent from his era that was any good was The Cure.I was also sad to see that musicology never made the SINGLE charts.if it was'nt for prince i would never have discovered Sly and the Family Stone and i am grateful to him for it.I want to know peoples thoughts on modern music and to ask if we are in trouble?.who needs the likes of EMINEM WHO IS JUST A SHOCK MERCHANT.

i'm glad you like Sly, the Cure and Prince. So do I. But i dig Eminem and my goodness the Smiths were wonderful.

I don't think we're in trouble at all. There are thousands of artists out there flying the flag for great music. Prince is too. It's as simple as that, really.

The Smiths are fucking brilliant.

Morrissey is a very talented lyricist. Not something that can always be said for our man.

Musicology was never actually released as a proper single in the UK - that's why it never never made the single charts.

Morissey has only just released his album - let's see where it is in a few weeks time. But Morissey has appeared on chat shows (Jonathon Ross) and performed his song on tv in the UK, so that helps promotion a lot. I wouldn't say he's talentless either, he's been around a long time now and lyrically he always has an edge.

I also like the Cure, I hear good things about their up and coming album. But I also like Eminem, he IS a shock merchant but combines it with entertaining lyrics - not unlike Morissey.

Sly and the Family Stone were good back in the day, but I always think it is easy to get behind a band that is well respected but no longer exists - they can't put a foot wrong anymore, can they? - much harder to be into bands around now that potentially can still screw up.

Excuse me for saying this, but I enjoy Morrisseys album "You Are The Quarry" more than "Musicology". Sure, Morrissey canĀ“t play a single instrument. But his voice and songs are beautiful and his lyrics are poems.
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...
