Is this it for Prince? 25 years in the business, bad knee, no record contract (after this one with Sony) and he is 46 years old (on 6/7) do you think this might be the last go around?
I don't...I'm just wondering what you everyone else thinks. Prime aka The Kid

I think he has alot still left in him. He is the most real musician that is out there now or that has ever been. By the way isn't he 46 now and will be 47 on 6/5/04? Anyway he's the best. "Love God"

He said it himself that he feels like this is just the beginning and that he doesn't feel old... so like you, I don't think this is his last go around.

It's funny that when things are going so well for Prince, some people have these doom and gloom predictions.
Yeah, when the Musicology tour is over, Prince is gonna go home, curl up into a little ball and die. There. Happy now?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but common sense should tell all of us that if he survived all those years when nobody but the hardcore fans paid any attention to him, he's gonna survive whatever happens after all the Musicology hoopla.
He'll continue to make music, we'll continue to debate how great, good or bad it is, he'll probably still tour on a smaller scale, and knowing Prince he'll still be shaking things up when he's 60. In other words, no, I don't think this is it for Prince.

I'd love to know what you mean by that. I mean as far as being creative. I know that I have ruffled more than a few feathers on this site with some of my comments, it was all in good humor. But actually Princes' creativity out weighs most musicians 12 years his junior. Music to me is not only what you do now, but what you will be remembered for when it is all over. And Prince will most certainly be remembered for all the things he has done for music. ----- "I wish u heaven" Don't make me sleep on the "Love God"

I don't...I'm just wondering what you everyone else thinks. This is a very good albeit unanswerable question that will get way too many unthinking cynical responses. IMO, Musicology is a decent album but it clearly shows that P. is treading water. Ok fine, it’s a consciously derivative record. Prince harkening back to the old days. But these are his old days. Fact is P. is recycling melodies from earlier more vital days. Scarier still are NEW, TRC, and Xpectation. Scary because these three entirely derivative records are considered to be P’s “experimental”/for fans only records. Shiiiiit, these three records (let me toss in NPS and C&D for good order) are of such dramatically lower quality than music coming off most of Prince’s 80’s material that it’s almost unbelievable that it’s the same artist. P is still making some decent music but it’s far, far and few, few between (four songs on Come, seven or eight songs on Emancipation, four songs on TGE, three songs on Musicology, three songs on TRC…that’s five records and one long album of quality material). However, despite these musings, I believe that P., assuming he's recording for another ten to twenty years, will release at least two or three more outstanding records. How long that will take? I have no idea. Maybe it will take a child, a divorce, the revolution, or a very long trip away from the studio to get the man inspired again. ego tripping out

He does not have an expiration date. Even if he stopped touring for a bit, he will never stop making music. Im sure he can release many, many, many cds just with the "unreleased" music that is sitting in his vault that are just as good as Musicology, if not better

What I meant is do you think he'll keep up with this pace like he did in the 80's or will he go back to the indepentdent stuff. I like what ever he does and like I said I was just wondering what you might think or have heard. I wish he would sign a contract with Sony for a few more albums.

He will. I'd bet the farm on that. Any N.E.W.S and C-Note experimental-type stuff will be for the NPGMC only in future. I betcha.

I agree with you. Prince is going to do what he does best and that's create music. That, if nothing else, will never stop. I don't thing it's anywhere near being over fro Prince. I think we're in the middle of a renaissance and I for one hope it doesn't end for a long time. Also, I hope he sticks with Sony. They have done a great job promoting this album and I think they will do right by him if he sticks with them. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Is this it for Prince? 35 Years in the business, still got enough money to feed America, no contract. Jeez - it evidently isn't due to Musicology - what were you thinking? I know, Prince is now famous again and in the limelight and more successful than he has ever been in the last 5 years, is his career over?!
