In the past, I have read several articles on Prince and his music and I have noticed that quite a bit of critics say that Prince lost his black audience after Purple Rain. I even have heard critics say that Prince made the Diamonds And Pearls CD with the intent on recapturing the black audience. I HIGHLY disagree with this assessment. From his first single in 1978, the r&b charts have embraced Prince and as a matter of fact, he has had more success on the r&b charts over his entire career than on the pop charts. Look at all of his #1's and top 10's he has had on the r&b charts as compared to the pop charts. In the mid to late 90's when pop radio neglected Prince, he was still having top 10's on the r&b charts..so where in the heck does the assessment that Prince needs to "reclaim" his black audience come from?

That said...90 percent of the people at any given show are white.

Prince hasn't lost his Black audience to tell ya the truth Alot of White Fans left him after Purple Rain and only Hrad-core fans Stayed. Really kinda Sad how People just liked Him when he was Popular now Maybe he's working to get back the lost White Audience with a Greatest Hits Tour.

Exactly...Prince has had a wide ranging audience for over 20 years now. I can't speak about what percentage appeared to be the majority or minority at a specific gig that I didn't witness, but in totality he probably has the most variety of backgrounds in his fanbase of anybody working today.
