Hell no!

I can't stand country music. I wish he would do away with the accostical set at his concerts. But, as much as I hate country music, they do at least sing and play instruments...that's more than I can say about hip hop.

Do away with the 'accostical' part of his concerts!? (not to quote you or anything, btw, you're spelling is most interesting... hehe) someone needs to get themselves a copy of (i know this isnt a whole concert but still..) P and Wendy performing 'Reflections'. Seriously, you'd do away with that? That performance makes my spine curl... it's so beautiful. Acoustic should stay. Too many people would miss it.

And yeah man. Country should be done. He should dip his toe (so to speak) into every genre. I'm sure he'd make even the genres people can't stand sound good wink

kinda makes you wonder what would have happen if he were sucked into the vortex of charley pride instead of larry graham, doesn't it?

and to the person who said "country sucks", i agreed with that sentiment for most of my life...then i listened to the rick rubin-produced johnny cash albums, and dug into JC's classic records. THE MAN IS AMAZING. then i checked out some old tammy wynette albums, and they're just phenomenal as well. and loretta lynn's new album is a masterpiece.

country music is just like any other genre - there's good stuff and bad stuff. if i based entire genres on artists i didn't like, i'd have to say i hate pop and r&b music. not true, though...i just hate music in those genres that i think is crap.

I had a very similar experience. I've come to truly love Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, and many of the pioneers of the genre. I've also discovered that when you get into "roots" music, country and blues were almost interchangeable. The blending of "black" and "white" styles was so commonplace, that the two weren't really defined as seperate forms yet (odd, in a time that was so segregated, music was much more integrated than today).

Now as to the topic, I think Prince could play country. He's certainly joked around with it in the past. On his "Muppets Tonight" appearance he played a country style bit in the "Hee-haw" parody skit, and he did a pretty silly snippet on one of the ahdio shows called "All My Biddies". Would he ever do any real country? I doubt he'd do an actual album, but I can see him doing a song or two. It would certainly be a challenge to him, and we all know he loves a challenge.

I also wouldn't mind seeing him produce a country artist's album, like Jack White has done with Loretta Lynn's latest. It would be sure to be interesting, to say the least.

Courtin' Time could be classified as Texas Swing (ala Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys) which is a sub-genre of "country" music.

It wouldnt have to be so stereotypicaly country as such though,I'd dont think he'd suit being like Billy Ray Cyrus. Though just something subtle would be cool.

I would give it a chance. Country music is much cooler than it used to be. IMO Besides, if I'm still a fan after his rapping phase, I think I can handle a little southern twang in his music. cowboy
