Musicology...Gold on its own (without concert sales) By using the figures from HITS Daily Double, it appears ths album has crossed the Gold sales mark in its seventh week without factoring in concert sales. Here (approximately) are the sales figures for each week:
week 1: 170,000 week 2: 90,000 week 3: 70,000 week 4: 53,000 week 5: 50,000 week 6: 40,000 week 7: 39,000 That 512,000 RETAIL copies...not sales plus retail but just plain retail...512,000 people physically purchased the album through their own will. The album should be close to Platinum with the concert sales but this retail figure impresses me on its own. With no Top 40 hits and up against artists like Usher, whose three singles were played for something like 350 million listeners last week, Prince has SOLD over 500,000 copies. And they all aren't going to the hardcore because I don't think there are anywhere near 500,000 hardcore anymore. (We're defintely not three million strong anymore). So that means that Prince has been opened up to a new audience and has brought some people back who have been out of the fold for awhile. So Far (So Pleased)...keep it going P and Columbia! All good things they say never last...

What is even more impressive is that most people who
get the CD at the concert will most likely not buy it agian from retail. So the people who are buyin it at retail are somehow new people not really fans. I think if its hardcore fan they buy it week #1 and #2 non-hardcore fan wont buy the cd if they r gettin at concert i dont know who is buying the cd?? but if we have a hit single that could all change becoz casual listners will buy the cd then.
