I'm surprised that he's kept the NPG name for this long.

especially since none of the original NPG members are in the band anymore. he should have gotten rid of the name after the symbol album really. or at least not call them the NPG anymore, and have no name, lol.

Well, isn't the NPG more then a band, he calls his die-hard fans a part of the NPG too. I think it's more of a movement ! Futuristic Fantasy

I think it's more of a movement ! er, and what would this 'movement' be aspiring to exactly? owning more outtakes than the next member? salivating over every move of it's leader more than than every other member? the npg has no ideals! lol prince just hasnt called it anything new because he hasnt felt the need to turn a new leaf like he used to. which is odd if you look at the name change, label changes, etc.

what does it mean anyway? it started out with a casual mention of "Newpower Soul" in the Lovesexy artwork, whatever the hell that's supposed to mean anyway, then Graffiti Bridge made out "the NPG" to be some sort of generational movement even though he was doing nothing particularly revolutionary or generational at the time, then Diamonds and Pearls named the band specifically as the NPG, then the band members changed several times, now it seems to mean the band and all the fans? it's just a buzzword he throws around...

I guess Prince has not dropped the name as his label is called NPG, also his club is called NPG(MC), so it would not make sense to dropp it.
Though a change would be good, some thing new and fresh, I can not think what he would call though? I would not mind a re-union with the Revolution if all else fails!

I seem to remember a topic or two some time ago about this. Something about naming P's new band.
At the time, I was big on throat-punching people when they pissed me off (still am), so I called his new band "Prince And The Throat-Punch Revue"...or some nonsense like that...

Back in 1996, when his website was still called www.thedawn.com there was a questionaire for his fans and one of the questions posed on it was "Should the NPG called something else?". He must have been hesitating even back then, keeping in mind that he in fact FIRED the whole band that was known as NPG back then.
... and goddamnit. The real NPG was Sonny Thompson, Michael Bland, Tommy Barbarella and Mr. Hayes! Forget about the Newpower Soul line-up.

I really think P SHOULD call his band The Dawn. Prince & The Dawn. Great name and great idea. It looks good and it sounds good, which is crucial to band names. Are you experienced? Well..I am. Jimi Hendrix SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Eeew, I don't like that. Sounds too soft. I just can't see a band named "The Dawn" throwing down the funk, ya know? . [This message was edited Wed Jun 2 13:49:29 2004 by Universaluv]
