"Diamonds and Pearl" Disliked it from the beginning, and never could understand what evreyone else loved about it. It's too rhymey or something. Just goes to show you that I obviously can't pick the "hits".

LISTEN 4 THE 100000 th time.

If the record company wants you to have a hit you will have one .

Why is Musicology a hit ?
Columbia is pushing the Hell out of it in hopes Prince will resign.

Why was Gold a Flop?

Because WB was pissed that Prince went to Bellmark to release TMBGITW.

Why was everything on Diamonds and Pearls a hit when "Symbol" had 7 as its lone hit ?

Because Prince had signed the infamous last WB contract so they needed to have "hits".

Now these explanations are too simplistic in reality and Prince is one of the greatest performers of all time still IMO good music in his "lost days" 94-2003 didn't make a chart.

It's NOT a hit. I don't see it on ANY hits charts anywhere. It'd be great if it was, but it's not.

What about Sigh 'O' the Times?

Somebody tell me they weren't spun out when they first heard that on the radio!
(Kiss is a close 2nd, and then Gett Off, WDC, LRC)

Kiss: Can't believe it was a hit. Love the rest of the album, but I never thought Kiss quite worked.

definitely surprised at "pop life"..
i love it, but i remember everyone being confused by the middle part where it sounds like a bunch of noise.

not surprised by the failure of "greatest romance", "betcha by golly wow".
they are terrible.

not surprised by "if i was your girlfriend" killing SOTT's momentum.
its just too good.

always wished "mountains" would have been bigger.

always thought "girls and boys" and "love sign" should have done better.
love those.

So true.
I think SOTT is Prince's most inaccesible single, and it was a hit!
The clip wasn't exactly spectacular either. (for the MTV generation)

But it was different, and I love(d) it.
