What did Prince do when he recorded the Gold Experience? Why does that album sound so big and loud when its playing?, especially tracks like GOLD,
PCONTROL, TMBGITW, 319, SHH, and NOW. It just seems like the music is a flood or a torrent of sound washing over you compared to what some of the other albums I listen to sound like. The only other song that sounds similar on another album to me is GET OFF. What happened did he record the Gold Experience album differently? "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

well, i know Ricky P was responsible for mixing a lot of this album. perhaps that's it. also, aside from , this is the only one that he recorded primarily with the NPG band (rather than solo, with contributions by 1 or 2 members)... and that happened to be a rather loud band, so perhaps that also has something to do with it. Prince wanted it to sound 'live' (which is why all the songs end rather than fade out)

It's not somethign very deep. If you like em to put in a simpel way. It was recorded and/or mixed loud.
The sound of a tear in a lake can be loud on a cd, and a thunder can be quiet. Some songs works better loud for some reason i never discovered, maybe is the way it is mastered or mixed. Maybe he wanted us to listen to the album loud and mixed it louder than his other albums.

He turned the recording volume up? When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Not true. TGE was originally recorded in 1994, alongside the Come tracks. Prince originally wanted to release them together (similar to the way Springsteen and G&R had done albums in the past), but WB balked at it. The concept was that one disc would be a "Prince" album, the other a album. The original tracklist for TGE was radically different, including songs like "Days Of Wild", "Ripopgodazippa", "Interactive" and "Acknowledge me" (which was originally intended to be the first single). Over the next year, Prince would tinker with the track lineup several times, including new songs he had recorded like "P Control" and "We March", while removing others. He also re-recorded "Endorphinmachine" to bring its sound more in line with the rest of the album (big, loud and live. The original version is much more stripped-down). So, as you can see, the disc was definitely NOT recorded in one night. Prince wanted the album to have a bold, live feel. Ricky Petersen was brought in to flesh out the production, giving it slick sheen, while at the same time preserving the bombastic feel of the tracks. The result was an album that sounds like no other in his catalogue. This was his first full-length release under the moniker, and he wanted it to sound quite distinctive from his work as Prince. In my opinion, he suceeded. ----- [This message was edited Thu May 27 6:28:43 2004 by JediMaster] Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
