Why (seemingly anyway) do so many orgers hate Chaos and Disorder??

I know some may think the tracks are rough or whatever but I would think if you liked Prince

rocking on the guitar that you would like it for that reason if nothing else.

Not every track is great NO but on the guitar driven ones WOW!!

Eye'm sorta confused by this. confused confused confused
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

True. The guitar songs all ROCK to bits.

But there are TWO main offenders and I'm NOT talking about the unfairly defamed "Right the Wrong".

They are:

Dig U Better Dead - so mindnumbingly repetitive it hurts
Eye Rock Therefore I Am - ditto.

In fact those two are so similar in their repetition they could be the same song.

These were the first two Prince songs I heard which I actually hated. Truth told, I hadn't heard the title track off Graffiti Bridge back then, but these two sure did suck at the time.

Great songs otherwise. Especially the first few tracks. Love em.

I like it. Its like he decided to remind everyone that he can rip the strings off a guitar. For the most part I think Chaos and Disorder is cool.
*Dig u better dead* and *I rock therefore I am* are very substandard for Prince though.

I love it.

I think its aslight departure, so all the people who began liking prince around the purple rain era arn't used to the change.

I think its great the way p can try new styles and get away with it and make himself sound pretty good all the time, i love eye rock therefore- when i bought the album that was on repeat 4 hrs, DWD is not bad and listenable and with a sense of humour. The album may b slated 4 being a randomn release of material so he could get out of his WB contract- but i like it - not one of his best- but by no means horrendous like a lot of orgers seem 2 think.
Just like the track my name is prince-slightly arrogant sounding etc- i rock does the same-but when u r p and singing it- it sounds right.

apart from dinner with dolores (which i like), i never heard chaos and disorder, i just assumed it was filler to get out of his contract. maybe this is the problem.

I just think the songwriting is fairly lame. Musically it's a good rock & roll album but the songs are weak. Dinner With Delores is cool, tho'.

The guitar solos on it are not up on P standarts, TGE guitar is much better. The guitar solo of the title track is grungy. and the one from zanalee altought is great is kinda cliche.

I remember reading in a Sun Times interview Prince said that Van Halen recorded a album in two weeks, we wanted to see how hard and fast we could thrash it out. Before I even read that I had a feeling that this is meant to be a hard fun album that rocks out. It's always good to look at the intent of the artist , and how well it was executed. Even if you dont like I rock therefore I am or Dig U better, which is obvious filler anyway, how anyone could not love Into the light and I will is beyond me. Dinner is not up there with Starfish and Coffee, but it's in the same breathing space, it's tied with Manic Monday to me, a gem. I like the album a lot, it simply rocks. The title track is a lesson to Lenny on how to get it right, the opening intro to Zanalee alone got me right away. The fact that he just cranked this out in so little time is a true testament to his genius in my opinion. It's not supposed to be SOTT, just a fun album. If you are more a funk, R&B, Dance Prince fan this may not be the album For You.

I love this CD and never had a problem with it.

Like any othe CD there will be songs that will be played and re-played and others that will float into the great beyond. But on a whole, the CD rocks.

I like C&D but it, IMHO, it needed a couple of changes/additions to make it a really good album...

1) Get rid of the "Crap Rap" on I Rock Therefore I Am (would be a pretty good song then)

2) Add "The Ride" and "Empty Room 95"
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I hated it at first...actually, I think bitching about it was the first time I'd posted here! But it's definitely grown on me, and I even kinda like I Rock (minus that bad rap), but the real standout to me that no one ever mentions around here is the title track. LOVE that song.

Tell me he didn't try to rhyme Delores with brontosaurus...

From the crappy cover art all the way down to the non-existent promotion, this album is impossible to look at as anything other than a self-designed failure. Prince wanted out of WB, strung a couple of decently played but horribly written songs together, and pretty much said "F*** You" to his fans on this one. Maybe my view of the album is tainted by my view of the whole era but I can't listen to it at all.

i've loved this album since the first time i listened to it - there are a couple of klunkers on it for sure, but they're far more listenable klunkers than some of the filler on his other albums. a pissed-off prince guitar album? hell YEAH. cool

I've always loved this album.

You can't go wrong with Prince on guitars backed by REAL bass and drums.

Have always wondered why Empty Room never followed Same December though.

I loved it. At least the first half of it. The title track, 'I Like It There', and 'Zanalee' are great tunes.

"I Like It There" would've made a great single. The song is sexy as hell and is among P's most infectous recordings.

Shame it ended up on a 'contract filler' album...which I think of as P's best album as far as contract fillers go. Behind GOLD EXPERIENCE...this is my other favorite mid-90's Prince album that was among many other albums released (Girl 6, Emancipation, Come, Beautiful Experience, Black Album)

Eye gotta say I am suprised by the responses to this thread.

I thought mostly all of them would be negative.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who appreciated at least some of it.

The reason why it is the way it is. It's beacuse he had to fullfil the rest of his contract with Warner Brothers. I do admit that there were a few songs on there that I liked, but the rest was just ummm terrible.

Chaos and Disorder...That actually does sum up the album.

It's not fleshed out and carefully put together like his other albums, it sounds a little half assed and hastily assembled.

It's not really bad though, I'd say it's solid all things considered. I do like its overall sound of a pissed off Prince taking his frustrations out with his guitar. So it's good pure rock music, but it's just too rushed to be anything special like it could've been.

Dinner with Delores
Same December
Had U
Into the Light
I Will

Those are all great songs, I love them.

Aside from Zannalee and I Rock, Therefore I Am (a potentially great song RUINED by the rapping), the other songs on it I can listen to cause they're decent enough, but they don't move me or capture my interest much.

i was really disapointed when i heard it when first released. apart from the title track and 'i like it there' it was a potential coaster. i will never forget this reaction and would not allow my bias towards his earlier stuff change my mind.

....enter 2004, driving through countryside in south Manchester i put it on, with nearly a decade's worth of music inbetween. It has improved greatly through my appreciation of the subtleties, however rushed, within the songs (or maybe my recent re-appreciation of his attention to detail). The brass sounds well contructed and the live band sound attacks unlike the symbol album.

i cannot forgive the start to right the wrong or the rap (i rock) though. it still bugs me that the text 'originally only for private use' - decodes into 'not good enough for release'.

I think you nailed it right there. I think a lot of people see that disclaimer and immediately

are turned off or causes them to dismiss what they hear afterwords when they open it.

Not all people but maybe some. I think at the point they see that everything else is

influenced by that. I don't think its a "GREAT" album but I don't think its a piece of

trash like some.
