Clare Fischer on Pink Cashmere

I went and listened to it yesterday a few times and I started noticing something or I thought

I did. Its great and its well arranged but it seemed like I noticed at least going towards the

end of the song that it sounds like the orchestra is playing follow the leader. Is this true>

I mean going towards the end when he's thru singing and he's just playing. It seems like

he'll play something and then the orchestra will and then he will and then they will. Its like

they're following his every note or step. Is this really what's happening or am I just hearing

it that way? Then at the end when he quits they quit. Its amazing the way it sounds and

seems to be put together seamlessly. Its like no matter what he plays they match it

instantly and perfectly. If what I think I am hearing is the case it was pulled off wonderfully.

Anxiety

i always just thought prince and clare mailed recordings to each other and laid stuff over each other. i've read that the two have never actually physically met, so i just imagined prince getting some tapes from fedex and thinkin' "okay, what am i gonna do with THESE?"

I thought the way it works is that Prince puts his tracks down , then sends them to Clare for orchestration. If this is the case , Clare can then write arrangements that compliment Prince's instrumentation, like the example of counterpoint in "Pink Cashmere"...

this is probably about how it works, though i've noticed the same clare fischer samples used in more than one song, and i've also noticed a few songs where the clare stuff sounds really, REALLY dissonant (yet it works) - so i have to wonder if maybe clare fischer sends prince stuff to experiment and play around with, on top of the more specifically arranged stuff.

Clare is a guy and he is the one whom arranges the orchestra parts on some of Prince's

music. (His orchestra plays on it of course)

I thought Prince sent Clare the track with maybe a synth line of what he was looking for and Clare would flesh it out. As far as the samples, I believe they were retread strings from past tracks Prince sent to Clare that we've just never heard .

Gee you guys made some real interesting points. I never got into thinking about it that

heavy. I just noticed listening on Pink and it sounded like the strings followed the guitar

thats all. Whatever the case that is the most beautiful part of a truly beautiful song.

Pink Cashmere for now and for evermore will always be one of the quintissential Prince

songs for me right up there with Purple Rain, Adore and Scandalous.

Oh yeah can't forget about Do Me Baby also.

Yeah it's just a musical call and response...not sure who wrote it though...I'm betting Prince did and Clare followed suit.
