It's an expression I hardly like to use myself...let's just say AGAIN that I just happen to like and hear that part over & over, the guitar playing at the end is my favorite part of the song (Cinnamon Girl).

Deadstar

I was a little disapointed when I heard this playing at my local ASDA wallmart! Its not the best track off the album and I do like anti war tracks to be a little more subtle (Check out Super Furry's, Phantom Power) but I can see it is catchy. I prefer IIWTMIYL though. Great cheesy rock track!! We'll have to see how it fairs but without any live dates scheduled the album could sink in the next few weeks if the single flops!

Starmist7.....
I understand your feelings about the music and what do you want to express. But an infection is always something negative. Would you please try to understand me too?
I'm sorry if I was a bit rude.

Cinamon Girl is a good choice for a single. no its not a perfect anti-war protest, in fact its pretty lame, but it catchy all the same, and its got a good solid guitar solo.

Actually we got a promo copy of the single in our office, but it says its being released in the UK on the 28th June I think. It looks pretty definite then. I cant see it being a big hit. I just hope we get some good b-sides.

Oh jeez. rolleyes

Maybe there's a language barrier here or something. Using the word "infectious" in describing pop music is an extremely common phrase that has been around forever. It has absolutely nothing to do with anything negative. Google it if you want.

It just means that the song is "catchy".

That's it.

I know eh? I can't believe this guy was actually serious. "Infectious" has the exact same connotation as saying a track is killer.

I still say AMD or ICPC would've been better choices for the UK. Cinnamon Girl has just such a weak chorus, it all falls apart at that point.

Mystery

Cinnamon Girl is a Sign or the Current Times and a perfect choice for a summer release. CG is Alchemy for the Masses!

statistacally speaking, purple knight is right:

initial reactions of people who use this website indicate that

illusion was the most popular song, followed by a million days,

cinnamon girl was thought to be the second worst song.

i'd say initial reactions are an important consideration in choosing a single.

There's no lenguage barrier if you don't make it. I know how common that expression is. That doesn't have to mean it is right.
But it's okay.

Prince.. Money Don't Matter 2nite was a great song.. back then you had your feet planted firmly on the ground and maybe you were surrounded by some musicians who could be honest enough to help you reflect on your songwriting.

But I gotta say this song "Cinnamon Girl" is an Embarrassment to your career.

Its the worst, most stupidest thing you've ever written from a very shallow perspective. If you release this as a single, the public isn't going to buy your trademark "God of confusion" act when they start asking a legend of a musician what nonsense you are spewing in this 3rd rate song.

Stick to chips and whips.

These statistics are not perfectly relevant.

First because the questions were asked to Prince fans who have some kind of "educated" taste when it comes to Prince.

Second because to get high in the charts you have to sell singles and people buy singles not because they think the single is not bad, but because thy think it's the best single to buy at the moment. And even among the Prince fans, a fair deal thought that Cinnamon Girl was the best on the album.

On the other hand, for airplay it's relevant that not too many people dislike a song.

I don't know. I've heard so many bullshit theories about hits, marketing and popularity and Prince has made so many good choices that I wouldn't have made...

Personally, I think Cinnamon Girl would fit into the radio context better than Illusion and my personal favorite (disliked by many): What do u want me 2 do?

It looks like Sony in conducting minor marketing tests on these Musicology songs and then pulling them before they crash and burn. One way of seriously finding out they don't have a hit in the package. What else can Prince do for his albums but release and tour, release and tour?

you are right, although cinnamon girl is a consistently disliked song (i have analysed 2 polls now) the statisitics are from a significantly biased sample of people (i.e. prince fans)and may not ring true for the population as a whole. probably the most most relevant sample are radio dj's, as ariplay has to be a big factor in the success of a single, but even then i have known songs to do well in the charts with hardly any airplay, although that is uncommon. i suppose in the end, you have to remember that music is an art not a science and it has to be up to the artist themselves to do what they feel is right, which is where prince is at an advantage, because alot of artists don't have a say in these things. having said that some people would argue that giving artists too much say is a distinct disadvantage when it comes to choosing singles. all i can say is that choosing a single must be a very difficult job.

just heard Cinamon Girl being played on Clyde 1(scotland)
the DJ presented it by saying "Prince thought Musicology was to good to release so he has released this instead"
he was actually quite excited about it.
Sounded great on the radio.
i happen to really like this tune.

woot!
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
