Hold up...wasn't it reported on some thread here that there would be no singles released to retail from Musicology??? Don't tell me that every piece of news made into a thread on this site might not be accurate!!

It will probably do quite well in the UK. It's radio-friendly enough and hopefully it'll save the album which is already falling way down the chart. confused

I reckon he must be bored of this album and has another one to release. There' s no other reason for releasing Cinnamon Girl with it's strikingly shit lyrics and 80s production.

If he had half a brain, illusion, coma, pimp & circumstance would be the next single.

oh well.

Ah okay, so it's just the next single for the UK. Well, good move I guess, but ICPC is ten times stronger as a single. Why? One word: Chorus. ICPC's chorus is catchy as all hell, and Cinnamon's is not. confused

before listening to it, some friends of mine who already listened to the song bashed it, but I really like it. It´s a soft rock, with nice guitar. Very accessible melody. Who knows if it would be a good choice for a single?
USA seems to have some passion for soft rock, maybe it works.

cinnamon girl was always the ovious choice to be the next single in europe...it is very catchy, radio friendly and upbeat and reminds me of raspberry beret a little bit. when i first listened to the album, it was the one track that jumped out and said single. yes it might not be his strongest song but it will give the album a boost and get some all important airplay over here which call my name will not.....good move, sony.

But the production of ICPC is so ... 1992. I'm having such a hard time digesting this one. Lyrically it's kinda clever, but I don't see mainstream digesting it either...not from Prince at least.

Cinnamon Girl is possibly the worst song Prince has written, It's awful in my opinion, down there with Cherry Cherry on NPS sad

I reckon its a great choice, when i first played musicology my friend heard cinnamon girl and started singing along, finishing with "i love that song", lol she didn't believe me when i said the album only came out that day. If that don't make a good single then what does????? Are they not releasing to vinyl any singles here in the UK tho, as i was wondering when musicology was gonna come out... confused ,

I think the thing that's difference about Prince singles is that he comes from a day when pop singles were written another way. There's a lot more production value on today's singles, so there's also a chance for things to sound too polished today, and the thing about Prince's music is that while it can sound downright brilliant, you can tell that Prince doesn't do his singles the same way.

I can see your point. Life O' the Party is the same way. they're both bouncy and make you dance, but like I said in my post about Cinammon Girl, Prince produces his songs according to the era he came up in, so he doesn't go by today's standards. Folks had that problem with him back a few years ago - but whaddya do about that?

Hey! it could have been worse, it could have been "What do U want me 2 do?"

I'm ok about CG being the first single, its a nice tune 2 play in the sun.
