what's the point in releasing new Prince singles??

Why does Prince release singles??

Radio doesn't play them... and the public doesn't buy them.

It justs seems to be silly, I live outside of Philly and I have not heard a "new" Prince single since "betcha by golly wow"....

Sorry guys, but it's true.

I know what you mean...Prince seems like he'd be one of the biggest things on satellite radio, but not on Clear Channel-owned, tight-playlist formats (which is almost everything out there on free radio).

I think radio is basically a wash, but I do think there would be one valuable purpose to releasing commercial singles...

if Prince would go back to the days of backing them with an unreleased track, it could mean HUGE sales for him! And besides, packaging these mis-matched b-sides and vault items into one never-cohesive album release (via his website or otherwise) never fully work artistically. But if every single had one new unreleased song? Damn!

The rules have changed and they would NOT count as sales. Musicology was grandfathered in but any further give-aways would not count.

That's not very many spins when you look at it. I bet the Maroon 5 song is played 574 times a week in our market alone.

yeah which is why although i was once diggin Maroon 5, i am basically at my wits end. Yeah play a song over and over until everyone is sick of it that's what radio is all about. There are always going to be people who buy Prince singles whether radio plays them or not. Prince already has a loyal fanbase. I just want those unreleased bsides again too!
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

That's a total of 1243 spins and all 3 numbers are going up. In Urban AC, it's getting the most new spins of any song, by a wide margin.

Instead of complaining it's not getting played enough, call and request it and get it played more. Here are links to stations playing it
