wow.

Sales for ALL these albums are weak...

100,000 copies for the best selling album on the charts, damn.

So, 3, 3, 3, 10, 22, including concert cd giveaways.

I guess the big comeback many were anticipating seems to be a dud.

But that's okay, they're just numbers and I learned long ago that you can't equate good sales with good music.

all he needs is 4 shows in a week and he could be back in the top 9. in the next 10 days he has LA, Vegas and San Jose ... he should crawl back up there.

I thought that this week there are no concert CD's to be figured in. That is why it dropped way down. Once the tour gets rolling again it should shoot back up!

Actually, it's 3, 3, 3, 7, ?(this week) on billboard...
...and 3, 5, 10, 10, ?(this week) on Soundscan...

How exactly is that a dud for Prince?

Well, by today's accounts, that's not exactly what I would call blockbuster numbers, and it was the "comeback" that was a dud. It's possible this album will be a long-time seller, but I'm already seeing Prince mentions dropping SUBSTANTIALLY in the media, and I highly doubt sales will rebound. But once again, see my original post, numbers are pretty much meaningless.

the album is still selling around 50,000 copies a week over a month after the album came out, it is sitting at number 14 on the chart, it has already sold around half a million copies before you include the concert cds!!!!!...this is a massive success for prince. his best commercially since the batman soundtrack in 1989.
..
..all this without a hit single remember, i think some of you need a reality check cool

So you consider going gold a "dud"? You consider sales of over 600K a "dud"? You call a successful concert that is selling out multiple dates in arenas a "dud"? The album reached number 3 and was there for 3 weeks and you consider "the comback" a "dud"? Wow, some people sure turn on their favorite artist quickly. That's really being negative and putting a negative spin on something that has done so well.

It's a pretty big success at this stage of Prince's career.

How could anyone seriously argue with that?

GOOD GOD!! Why does everyone focus on that one freaking word, "dud". I'm not being negative, I am stating a fact, that his sales have done far from put him back at the top of the charts. AND, I never "turned" on my favourite artist at all! I never turned from him with NEWS, TRC, or even Rave, because I loved them all. And I'm not turning on him for Musicology! but TRC was not over-promoted and sold-up as a chance for a pop-comeback, and Musicology was. In that respect it failed, ie. was a dud. Take it for what it's worth.

Because nobody seemed to pay attention to my reply, let me repeat myself:

1) Numbers never mattered to me, and I am not insulting this album!
2) Going gold is no big deal by today's standards at all!
3) His media presence went from respectable to non-existant in about two weeks!
4) He dropped off the charts quickly and his album is fast on track to being forgotten by the majority of the population
5) He might get long-term sales and this album COULD rebound, and I am not saying he is going to fail with this, but I BELIEVE that the train of success that everyone seems to be expecting will never arrive.
6) NOT talking about his concerts, talking about his new CD!

Every time somebody suggest Prince just maybe, maybe, isn't some perfect stellar super-genius superstar they instantly become negative. Whatever.

-----
You know you are being negative.
1.Going gold is a big deal when artist like Lenny Kravitz can't sell 50,000.00 copies in a week.
CD's just aren't selling like they use to.
2.He took a break dude. He is not a machine.
3.They CD has not dropped off the charts and he is not going to be forgotten as long as he is out on the road.
4.He has not failed. The goal was to get pubilcity, get a CD in the top ten and have a sell-tour. He is doing great. Rome wasn't built in a day. It is going to take time but he is on the right track.
