"Prince" : written/produced as a 21 year old!! Album still sounds so fresh even 25 years later.

co-sign on that one. nod

If you're using youth as somewhat a scale how about 4U? I never hear anyone say anything

about for you but I think it has some great solo synth parts and that it is the introduction of

his falsetto and also the whole "produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince"

thing. 4U most assuredly underrated in my opinion.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Oh my God, that's so easy - The Gold Experience, hands down.

Emancipation is the runner up!

Emancipation, The Gold Experience, The Rainbow Children, and Controversy

And Lovesexy is underrated everywhere except these boards.

I think New Power Soul is his most underated. That album has been kicking my ass this week. Sure it's not his best, but many fans just piss on it because it wasn't what they were expecting/hoping for when it came out. I usually ask the people who diss it when the last time they listened to it was and generally they answer something like "I only listened to it once when it first came out and it was so bad... blah blah". Give it another chance people!!!

Oh, Around The World in a Day (U guys kill me with these acronyms) - the album released after Purple Rain. That album was successfull and received a fair amount of airplay - far from underated.

"Chaos and Disorder" would be my first pick, but then I rethought considering not only what I read on this board but also sales figures and it came down to "N.E.W.S.".

For me, his best record since Chaos and widely misunderstood/unappreciated/underrated.

The ones I love are always the ones no-one else does! When Prince gets raves on this board I start to worry, cause that's usually the stuff I'm not so crazy about.....

N.E.W.S.

.....and I'm sticking to it.

The Truth has by far his best lyrics, down to earth and that guitar man o man! Rhythm and Blues unplugged and with some great splashes of color in the studio. I haven't listened to it once where I wasn't singing to all the songs. The playful compositions are a challenge to keep up with and each song is a variety of different styles old and new.

I say its underrated not only because its neatly tucked away in the Crystal Ball but also I feel his songwritting was never so free, fun and interesting.
