The Most Underrated Prince Album

Hey fellow P fans!!!

Thought it would be intereresting to find out what you guys think is the most underrated album or CD P ever put out. Personally, i think it was the Symbol CD. It did not do as well as Diamonds and Pearls but i loved it more. He had a hit with "7", but it did not really get that good of reviews. It covered more musical territory than any other CD P put out.

COME is miserably underrated. really, i think just about all of the "contractual obligation" albums are really great - it was the hype over the warners feud that made people look on these albums as "weird" or "phoned-in". i think he was just using the feud as an excuse to let loose and release really extreme, experimental material. he should feud with record labels more often. smile

Because "Dirty Mind" isn't rated as the number one record of all times ..... it's underrated!!

The fact is ... "Dirty Mind" is the number one record of all times!

The first two albums are underrated by a lot of fans ....
everything released after LoveSexy is overrated by a lot of fans

but ... see this thread:

Come, definitely. It's one of my favorite Prince albums. I feel it compares favorably with his 80's work.

Prince - it's rarely mentioned and when it is, not so nice things are said about it. I love this album.....pretty much can play it all the way through.

wow. I'd say Come and Chaos & Disorder. I still haven't figured out Graffiti Bridge. I think those 3 albums are the kind that you may not appreciate until several years down the line. (It may take a couple more years to deal with Graffiti Bridge.) But you know, that's what's so wonderful about P. His music is sooooo far ahead of me!!!! I look forward to loving his music in the future.

"Prince" : written/produced as a 21 year old!! Album still sounds so fresh even 25 years later.

I must agree with everyone else... Come has some really good songs on it(title, space, dark, letitgo) that always gets left out as a "contract" album. I've always enjoyed that cd though.

I will forever say that 'Parade' is the most underrated Prince album. Certainly not on this website, but from a critical standpoint. When Prince was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame this year, the albums most cited when discussing his greatness are 'Dirty Mind', '1999', 'Purple Rain', and 'Sign O' The Times'. For my money 'Parade' is every bit their equal. It belongs in that class. The production work on that album alone pushed Prince 15 years ahead of his contemporaries. The sound he captured in '86 was unlike anything he'd done up to that point and really hasn't been duplicated since. Not to mention that the album spawned what may be his greatest single ever.

I've always said that '1999' is my favorite Prince album ever and alot of that is because of the sentimental value it has for me, but I sincerely hope that one day 'Parade' gets the universal recognition it deserves as one of the elite Prince albums.

P.S. That damn movie.... mad

Word 2 Violator!

Parade was fantastic. I guess when U turn out 3 masterpieces consecutively (Parade, SOTT, and Lovesexy), folks can't deal.

Here's my list (NOT in order):

Controversy
Parade
Grafitti Bridge
Batman
"The Symbol Album"
Come
NPS
The Truth
The Rainbow Children
N.E.W.S.

PERIOD!!!!!

Just picked up "Prince," last week and was amazed.
You never hear much of this album but it is brilliant.
The jam on IWBYL, Sexy Dancer, the beauty of "With You," which nicely morphs into "Bambi," "I Feel for You," "It's Gonna Be lonely,"
This is definitely my favorite at the moment.
