I always thought that the end of Karen White's "Superwoman" was a Purple Rain rip off, and that dude who sang background for Paula Abdul on "Forever Your Girl" was a sound-alike.

And what was the name of that group that did that song "P.A.S.S.I.O.N"? That was a good tape. They had that almost-prince thing, too.

Toilet Tisha by Outkast, the drum machime, the synth and the guitar are all a big nod to prince. Even the phrasing of the lyrics and the slowed down voice have purple overtones

great track

I'm not sure about the title. It was one of TLC's first hits. I think it was called "Baby" or "Baby, Baby, Baby" or something. I always thought that song was kind of purple.

I concur. T-Boz from TLC tore up Baby, Baby, Baby. That really did sound like Prince. But then, T-Boz remade "If I was your girlfriend." I thought that was real cool.

Don't forget, TLC also did a remake of The Time's Get It Up which of course Rude Boy wrote.

I think that song was by Rythm Syndicate (sic)--a bland studio band from the 90s.

Not the best sound-a-like, but I always thought Michael Jackson's "Blood on the Dance" floor sounded like it could be a Prince song. And the video is definitely a Prince rip-off.

It's funky as STANK ASS!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

How about Lover's Lane? I still jam to that track by Georgio. He also released a song in 1988 called "I Don't Want 2 Be Alone". It was kinda "Princey" also.

GeSmi1

PS What ever happened to Georgio?

lol OK I have the 12in of Lover's Lane!! That was my song! Damn I'm gettin' old! lol

Now he was a Prince wanna be for sure! Come to think of it, I think I have the whole album somewhere. I guess I have to go dig in the crates to find it. I wonder what he is doing now?

Yes, I thought Georgio was so cool.

My friend and I always thought the song was Prince related also.

Does anyone remember "World Party"? They had a song that reminded me of Prince also.

Can't think of the name.

OK, now I think the unlikeliest Prince-sounding song would be this 80's New Wave track called "Doot Doot". It was by this band called Freur. Also, way before Prince even thought of changing his name to an unpronouncable symbol, this band beat him to it. Originally, they were only identified as some weird symbol, until their record company pressured then to change their name.

Trivia: Freur went on to become techno group underworld.

I don't think it's been mentioned - but She Drives Me by the Fine Young Cannibals has the same kind of spare funk groove that prince was using frequently during his Parade/SOTT period.

I totally love Underworld...They were Bad (in a very good way).

Anybody ever heard of this dude named Jak? He had an album out in 85 and his whole album was a bite off of Prince songs. He had a single called "I Go Wild" b/w "69". "I Go Wild" sounded like "Let's Work" crossed with "D.M.S.R." and "69" sounded like "Do me, baby" and The Time's "Girl". The whole album is like that. I wonder if P has ever heard this, because he has a case for plagerism big time. His publishing of his songs were called "Jack U Up Music". Isn't that some shit?

Those of you in the UK..My mate said there is a Prince remix track coming out. Which track is it? Might do his cred some good. Space Cowboy did wonders with I Would Die For You!!

And it is not like I said that Lithium by nirvana sounds like Prince. The Lk song is a slow jam with a funk guitar, delicate vocal and retro keys. Of course it sounds like lot´s of 70 acts who used these elements too, but it still something i could picture on Prince´s catalog, so get a life, you´´re so boring you´re even pathetic. biggrin

Hu, and anyone remembers of NIKKI? that guy who used purple on the letters of his CD. He played all instruments from his CD too, the prgrammed beats werre boring, but the guy was a great singer and decent guitar player, and terrible lyricist by the way.

Blaqueknight, the topic was about Prince, if it was about Marvin G. or Curtis M. i would name this song too. I even agree it sounds more like them then like Prince, but it still sounds like Prince too in my opinion. I read some of reviews of this song comparing it to Marvin Gaye, and i agree with the critics, but i read one once that said "it´s the best song prince never done" and I agree with this one too. I can picture this song on SOTT for some reason.
