You're right- nothing on Musicology is as dumbed down for the average joe-know nothing as "Yeah", which is definitely one of the stupidest singles ever. As for Burn, it just sounds like yet another R. Kelly ballad. That kind of song gets crapped out time and time again by dozens of so-called R&B artists. It's just like Prince said on "Y Should I Do That When I Can do This", we're working in a system where mediocrity reigns.

Remember guys: the key is AIRPLAY, AIRPLAY, AIRPLAY and more AIRPLAY. If everytime I turn on the radio and they're playing Usher; or, I turn on the t.v. and they're showing one of his videos, then eventually I'm going to get hooked and buy the album.
Just today, my co-workers were chiding me about Teena Marie and Usher beating Prince on the charts. I had to remind them that Prince has gotten virtually not radio play, apart from some adult contemporary stations, and little video time COMPARED to the others. Bottom line: this has been a spectacular year for our Little Man, considering the relative lack of exposure and compared to other artists of his caliber. We gotta give the man SOME credit. What a triumphant year it's been.

I was going to go on a huge rant about how Usher's new album is cookie cutter, boring and insulting to R&B fans. But we already know that. "Yeah" is hook-filled crap for the drooling masses and "Burn" is maybe one of the most flat out boring ballads I've ever heard. The worst part is that I like Usher. At least, I did before he started going gangsta and hanging out with Lil Jon (WTF!?!) and Ludacris (double WTF!?!?!).
Anyway, I just think its cool that in a day in age when the top 10 is filled primarily with bland pop, shitty rap and lame ass compilation CDs like "NOW," Prince is still in the top 10 after a month, and with a new single, the mag covers and the tour, he'll be around there for awhile. It's just refreshing to see a musician getting some commercial success and props from critics. God knows we've waited long enough. Yeah, it's the same stuff the gazillions of folks who bought "Confessions" are smoking. Gives you a great fast high, probably gonna get old soon.

Happy dance again for Prince:
I think Call My Name, A Million Days, Cinnamon Girl, The Marrying Kind could be hits if given a chance. They are excellent songs and they sound so good and so different from most of the stuff out right now. The way the Sign O The Times single became a hit or 7 or When Doves Cry. Great songs, unique sounds.

uhh.. at the risk of heresy, have any of you been at a club when "Yeah!" is played?? Its *impossible* not to feel that jam..
is it hall of fame material? probably not, lol... but he's a strong vocalist and one of the better performers coming up right now. Respect that the kid is young and selling a ridiculous amount of records while still finding his way. ...and that there's absolutely no reason to compare him with Prince! ********************************************

I agree with u,but the club jumps when they play Freak-a-Leak by Peety Pablo or 1 of Kanye West's songs or even Jay Z. I like USHER but i realize that CRUNK music is the hot sound in Urban music right now and that LIL'John produced both trax(Freak-A-Leak and YEAH). Remember we are talking the 21 and over crowd and not the 30 and over! The dirty south is rockin right now but hopefully the success of OUTKast will open up some minds on the dance floor! U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

Strange - I never read on this forum that anyone who sells more records than Prince nowadays is actually considered by anyone in these forums to be better/more cutting-edge than Prince musically or at least his equal. AAAAAHHHH - I forgot, this is the Prince-worshipper.org site...
