Cinnamon Girl Video!!!!!!!!! I must say Cinnamon Girl has grown on me. It's currently my favorite track on the album. It's my choice as the next song to promote Musicology? Who should direct the video, and what role should Prince play in the video?[/b] It's a great track that I think could do well with the right video. What do you think?

That song would be perfect timing. I think people who haven't heard it will fall in love with it, especially during this time. There'no song out there like that one that can relate. [This message was edited Mon May 10 21:45:55 2004 by Starmist7]

I dunno if it would be a hit but it certainly would be timely... "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Not that it is a bad song, but people are just so dumb these days and most people who listen to top 40 radio, don't care about lyrics unless they refer to tits, ass, drugs, guns, rims, or bling.

Naw...I don't like that one, but just like the rest of the CD, it may grow on me. GeSmi1 Baby, Baby, Baby...what's it going 2 b?

Nah, the chorus is way too weak for it to be a good single.
ICPC and Call My Name are the only real singles here to me. Either one might possibly be a sleeper hit, but I doubt it. Ah well. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

'Call my Name' is my favourite. For some reason I skip it too. I am working on playing it all the way through. It has become one of my goals, lol.

ARGH! I'm sure I wrote something in that post! It was something like, Raspberry Beret is the perfect pop song, whilst Cinnamon whatever is the perfect poop song. Ah shit I take that all back, that just sounds so lame. I still think Cinnamon Girl is shit though That one about pimps and comas would make a good vid, or even, dare I say, Life of the Party, considering a lot of my non-Prince fan friends seem to be digging that one. Maybe they do just to be sarcastic ..... BULLSEYE!

Incorrect. Back in 1985 there was no Internet as a forum for people to whine about Prince's single choices.

I have some different lyrics for the last verse of Cin. Girl that Id like to share. I always tend to make up my own lyrics for certain songs, and sometimes I think they're better. In this case it suggest that Cin. Girl becomes a suicide bomber. This is VERY true in Palistine where many teenage girls are becoming such. Heres my veresion: "cinnimon girl opens a book she knows will settle all the score, then she joins a terror group that tells her Gods worth dyin' for" Cinnamon Girl"-----YAWL SING! "It aint me, its da tea" JAMIEESTARR IS A THIEF!

cinnamon girl is a great song till it hits the chorus.. then it fall FLAT on its face..
the chorus is HORRIBLE... could have been a classic and great pop song.. just needed a little more work.. the vocal line is a little lazy.. and the guitar part in the chorus is right off the muppet show... this is really the only song i cringe at on the album... a million days would be a better pop single.. but still not a hit... gets close too but then just misses the mark.. i agree the only real singles.. are ICPC and Call My Name... to be honest they should have stuck with musicology more and brought that to pop radio... its the closest thing to a hit single on the album... not that its a bad album or i dont like it... i love it as an album... its just missing that no brainer hit song...

[This message was edited Mon May 10 21:45:55 2004 by Starmist7] I played it for a couple of people who haven't been so into Prince's music as I am, and they loved it, so that's what I'm going by.

NOW sure, it's a singalong and it's goofy, whatever, but when he was pimping THAT as the first single to followup the groundbreaking success of Purple Rain? I was dumbfounded. Where's the funk? Where's the dark anger? Where's the booty-knockin lyrics? This was some stupid children's song. Okay, sure, it sounded like "Take Me With U" (which ALSO baffled me, and sure, now I like it). This song, lyrically, is interesting, but musically, it sounds weak, especially contrasted to Musicolgy or ICPC. but yeah, it might grow on me. I don't see it happening, but I wont say it's impossible. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Like alot of you I also hated it for about two weeks. Then all of the sudden I found myself singing the song at work and enjoying it alot ever since. I thought more people would enjoy it but, apparently not. Since it focuses on a current social issue, I think if done in a classy way it would really be a hit on MTV and VH-1 and build from there.
P.S. I love "Call My Name" it will play on late night R&B stations for along time, just like "Adore" still is. And "Musicology" the song is slamming. Why doe every one say it's his worst first single ever? It's a fun jam to listen to in the car. At work when it comes on(sattelite Radio) everyone starts to sing it and get there groove on.
