Why not "Shrek 2.....Plays Funkytown"? It wouldn't be in this forum, but at least it'd be clearer.

just because theres a guitar in the song doesn't mean its prince. its certainly not the "minneapolis sound" scratch funk guitar he made so huge in the 80s. besides, im fairly sure the link you gave said funky town was 79, fink didnt work with them until 3 years later.

im confused as to why its prince in funky town though?

So far we have the unsupported assertion that Prince played guitar on the Lipps Inc. hit, 'Funkytown'.

The "proof":

1. At the time of recording, 'Funkytown', the group, Lipps Inc., included Cynthia Johnson (vocals) and David Rivkin.

Johnson previously worked in Flyte Time, together with Terry Lewis, Monte Moir and Jellybean Johnson. She left Flyte Time before the group evolved into The Time as the Prince project. She later worked with other people associated with Prince such as Chris Moon Johnson was interviewed for Dave Hill's book, 'Prince - A Pop Life' but no mention was made in the book of any involvement by Prince in 'Funkytown'.

Rivkin worked with Prince over many years. He has been interviewed over the years, but to the best of my knowledge he has never suggested that Prince played on the track.

2. The websites:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/drfinkwebsite
http://www.iuma.com/IUMA/.../Dr._Fink/

state that Matt Fink (long-time keyboard player with Prince) worked with the group, Lipps Inc. in 1982, way after their only hit.

No proof that Prince played on 'Funkytown'

Interestingly, the very same 'CDbaby' website, states that guitarist, Bobby Schnitzer, played on the hit song "Funky Town" by Lipps. Inc.

So no proof that Prince played on 'Funkytown.' but at least an indication that there was a guitarist on the track who wasn't credited as Prince.

I believe that some of the members of the "Time" played on a demo version of, Funky Town". So, Prince was involved indirectly.

I gotta concur....that's quite a stretch from the opening statement here.

When? Is this documented anywhere?

Jellybean doesn't mention any demo involvement in his interview with the Tone Magazine (Minnesota Music Cafe) in January 2003:

http://www.purplemusic.my...01-14.html

Q. How did you get the name "Jellybean"?

A. Jellybean: We were playing at the Flame Bar on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis, and Robert Martin said, "We sound like a buncha jellybeans!" The next day they got me a T-Shirt that said Jellybean on it, and it stuck. We used to play there six days a week as Flyte Time and the Standelles. Cynthia Johnson was the vocalist in the band until she left to sing "Funkytown" for Steven Greenberg around 1980.

And even if a member of Flyte Time performed on a demo of the song, that doesn't mean Prince was inolved, even 'indirectly'.
