IF PRINCE TOURED WITH THE ROLLIN STONES. WHO WOULD OPEN?

Prince opened for the Rollin Stones some years ago and was boo'd by thousand of fans.
If Prince were to tour with the Rollin Stones today who would possibly open first, considering
both superstar status.

I opened one time for the Rolling Stones...

I got booed off the stage....

Or perhaps I should have played this

I like the Rolling Stones, but I do agree that the fans get pretty nasty with opening acts they don't really like. It probably has something to do with paying $$$$ for the tickets lol One reason I have never seen them live! confused

if you look real close it says this in the opening bloody post!!! smile didnt you read it?

as for whether they would tour, it would officially be "co headliner" and at best they would rotate opening and closing slots. otherwise it would definately have to be prince. so basically, its never gonna happen!
but after this year...who knows?

Well, it won't happen but I can still dream. The Stones and Prince are my two favorites so I would be in heaven either way. Both Prince and the Stones put on the best shows I've ever seen.
Not all us hardcore Stones fans are so harsh. I would never boo anyone that was up there doing their act - I might be impatient to see the Stones - but I wouldn't boo and throw things - that's just WRONG - even with Justin Timberlake. I've never seen anyone as good as Prince open for the Stones - but I never booed anyone and wouldn't do so.

Prince opened for the Stones in 81 at the L.A. Colisuem. Other acts were on the bill too, but P was the first one. My girlfriend at the time got to go with her parents. It was two shows. Prince got booed off both days. After the first day, word spread all over L.A. They were talking about it on the radio. So by the time the second show came around, everybody in the crowd was ready. They threw all kinds of shit at Prince. Bottles, shoes. Brown Mark got hit with a bottle of orange juice. Prince actually flew back to Minn. after the first show, leaving his band there, but Dez and Mick Jagger talked him into coming back for the second show. This was right around the release of "Controversy".

can you imagine looking back on your life and realizing that 23 years ago, instead of recognizing genius, you instead booed it off of the stage?

Yes - I have read about what happened when Prince opened for the Stones and it's terrible. I'm glad I wasn't there - I would've been ashamed to be around people who acted that way. Disgusting. I'm not that kind of Stones fan - I would never have done that. I have always loved Prince and I would have been thrilled to see him back then. I know that Mick is a fan and I'm sure he was disgusted with their fans for treating Prince that way. The Stones got enough crap in the beginning of their career to remember what it feels like to be ridiculed.

Welll... as genius as Prince is... The Stones are Rock'n'Roll classics and have the clout and longevity in this biz that has probably earned them the headliner position until they die... and I can't believe that Keith Richards has lived this long! dead

I was at that 1st show at the Coliseum. He was the opening act followed by George Thorogood and The Jay Geils Band.

During "Jack U Off" Prince said something like "When I count to 4, I want y'all to say Jack me off." When he counted to 4 the majority of the Coliseum screamed "FUCK YOU!". This must have really disoriented him because he foolishly tried it again and promptly got another "FUCK YOU!" about 40dB louder. He's probably learned a great deal about "crowd control" since then.

The rudeness was so severe that Bill Graham (promoter) had to come out during the set and give the crowd a tongue lashing about respect and manners. Didn't work. Prince ended up storming off the stage.

In what might be viewed as some kind of karmic redemption, after the release of 1999 and then Purple Rain, i'm willing to bet that many of those same FUCK YOU-ers are now "fans".
