Exodus is credited to the NPG and Sonny T handles some of the vocals although Prince (or Tora Tora as he calls himself in the artwork) can be heard on most tracks.

It's a very funky album with some good tracks. Get Wild, Return Of The Bump Squad, Big Fun,
and The Exodus Has Begun are all hard funk. There's also a couple of ballads- Count The Days which is great and Cherry Cherry which is saccarine to the point of ill

What lets the album down for me is the pointless spoken segues between almost every track
which totally spoils the albums flow.

The most famous track is The Good Life which was very popular as a remix in dance clubs. Seek out the maxi single the Big City remix is great 'testicles 1, 2' lol
if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

Great CD, the best of the 3 NPG albums, the segues make it feel disjointed and infocused, but some are funny as hell - take them out, you have a very strong core of songs.

All the, occasionally very long, segues are good fun to listen - the first couple of times. Sounds like Prince was having a laugh with this album. The actual tracks are great, worth editing the segues out eventually. Even though it's often Sonny singing, it sounds exactly like how Prince would sing anyway!

Oh, and there's tons of swearing on it - hard to imagine the Prince of today swearing this much - guess he got it all out of his system!

My favourite has always been the last song, a biting tirade against the record business inside a massive wall-of-sound funky stomp. Fantastic bass throughout and a great screeching guitar which comes in underneath everything later in the song.

Personally I way prefer "Goldnigga" which is more Tony m.'s record anyway, but this is a million times better then "New power soul"!

Love "Return of the bump squad" and "Count the days"!

Sonny t had quite a good voice actually, it suits this album very well!

The segues are very funny though, like Prince was trying to appeal to hardcore rappers or something (this also happens on "Goldnigga), the segue just before "Return..." always cracks me up!

"Cherry, cherry" sucks bigtime though, very out of place on this album!

"Hallucination rain" scares me a little though, don't really know why?

Get this album! It is a very old school (as in 70's) funky affair, but of course done in Prince's way so really u can't compare 'em!

The Exodus Has Begun is possibly the greatest song EVER
Turn it up LOUD
Bob George voice
Great chorus biggrin
my only moan is that guitar-why so low in the mix
And the Hornheadz are great on this song and the entire disc
Mashed Potato Girl and New Power Day skits are 2 funny!

"What the fuck business is it of yours?
I'm payin' 4 these fuckin' potatoes
I'll do what the fuck I wanna do with'em!
Now bring me a fuckin' finger bowl!" classic! lol
...just another manic monday...

I don't see why not. It's usually in amongst the Prince CDs in HMV or Virgin etc.

It was promoted relatively heavily at the time (it came out around the same time as the Gold tour - he did quite a few TV shows to promote it - The Sunday Show (appeared as Tora, Tora with the NPG and did Billy Jack Bitch from TGE), TOTP (Get Wild) and The White Room (I forget what they did on that, prob. Count The Days & Get Wild, there were a couple of other tracks that didn't get aired/surfaced on bootlegs).

3 singles: Get Wild (also on the Pret-A-Porter soundtrack), Count The Days & The Good Life, which was re-released a couple of years later and was a relatively big dance hit at the time (which I found most bizarre!).

I think that the segues add a little of their personalities to the album. It also tells a story of before and after the song. I enjoy listening to that album because it is very funny and funky. All they are doing is having fun with it.

I had the test pressing at one point (don't anymore - my brother's roommate stole nearly my whole collection!) but it included Aknowledge Me and Love Thy Will Be Done and was gorgeous. I miss that last song more than anyone could know...

Picked up the boot with the original configuration on back in 95/96 - great to hear these other songs from the sessions, but it would have been a totally different album if that version had been released. Proud Mary and Love thy will be done just don't fit with the rest of the tracks.

I agree, but you can burn them onto another disc with some of Emancipation and they totally fit.
