Looks good. I'm thinking of doing something like this for a friend. It'll have to be in chronological order though, i'm personally not keen on compilations that skip backwards and forwards in time.

I'm going to do something like two singles off each album and a killer album track from the same album. It's not that easy when it comes down to it. There's alot that'll get missed.

you mean to say that in all the time you had to compile this you still couldn't learn how to spell "raspberry" (no "h") right?

Good compilation, by the way.

Not bad, but no Love We Make or Let's Have a Baby?

And My Name is Prince? Why?

Also don't like when epic closers like Purple Rain and Gold are in the middle of the tracklisting.

thanks for the feedback. i'm just not really into most of emancipation, i've tried and tried recently to get into it, but it doesn't do it for me + a lof of slow songs are represented here. As far as having the epic closers in the middle, it just felt right, i was very concerned with flow and order while making this compilation. I like bringing things down in the middle and then picking them back up.

My name is prince, i was considering cutting, but there was a point in time where i really liked that song, i know it's not a die hard fan fave, but it is up tempo, energetic, and represents a diff side of P, i was going for diversity.

I appreciate your feedback, and I must not have done too bad, cause again, your criticisims are minor

Great job! You've encouraged me to do the same thing. Some alterations I would make for my own best of collection:

1. I would arrange things chronologically, even if it wasn't the best flow for listening. Disc one would be his 70s stuff and early 80s. Disc 2 would be his commercial glory days in the early to mid 80s. Disc 3 would take his late 80s period (Lovesexy-ish) into the early 90s. Disc 4 would be mid 90s-today (I think I could fit it all on one disc).

2. My disc 5 would be a disc of Prince collaborations, covers, and songs made popular by other artists. Stuff like "A Love Bizarre," "Manic Monday," "Love, Thy Will Be Done," and so on.

Now I can't wait to start on this!!!

I think I would ommit singles. I would do a disk only with stuff I haven't overheard and songs other people don't know.

I'm not sure the flow works on these CDs.

I agree with go2theMax that some kind of chronolgy would be better

Tomorrow I'll post a compilation I received that broke it down like this:

78-83
84-88
89-01

The 4th volume picked up stuff that had been left off the previous ones, plus also covers of to 2003.

The actual tracklisting of the CDs was not chronological. I thought that was a nice way to do it, as you still have distinct eras but you can get the CDs to flow nicely.

The reason the 3rd CD covers such a long period in time is simple - the hits dried up in the 2nd half of the 90s, so any casual listener would just ignore a 4th CD with more recent stuff - best to suck them in with D&P, Cream, Beautiful Girl etc and then surprise with Tangerine, Last December, Endorphinmachine etc.

Hello, Goat2004!

I got the Black Album for a friend's birthday on Ebay - and got it for a pretty good price. The price all depends on how many are up for auction at the same time. But beware - there are lots of bad bootlegs out there - I actually encountered that first from a private seller on Amazon (his name for all of you reading is "bosscain") I specifically asked him if his Black Album was bootleg (he sold icheaper than the others) and he said "no" - and sure enough, it was! It was a super bad recording with two additional songs tagged on that only played out of one speaker! The upside - Amazon rocks! I worte them what happened and they refunded me in full! flower

I put the one on CD 5 "bonus CD", i Like it don't love it. I had title track to muicology, it certainly grew on me, but not sure it's a best of. I think i only like the song musicology cause i've herd it over and over. CD 5 is still a work in progress, 1-4 are truly my faves, shit, those CD's are full, all real close to 80 minutes

Thanks for your input

Musicology is an instant classic Prince track!! And it behooves you to include a track from Rainbow Children, preferably the title track!! Rainbow Children is only the best Prince album in years, you know...

Howdy, y'all.

I thought I'd share my Old School Prince Mixxx. Each has a bonus track, after some silence.

Volume I

Volume II

Volume III

I'm working on Volume IV, and contemplating a live one and a mixxx of his extended jams.

I'm forty years old... why do I spend so much time on this stuff? LOL

Peace!

I'm in the process of compiling a SINGLE DISC compilation of my all-time favourite Prince songs. It was difficult to narrow it down, but this is quite literally all of the Prince songs I couldn't live without. I've sequenced them in a really interesting way too. Let me know what you think...

Title: JOY IN REPETITION The Very Best of Prince

Musicology
If I Was Your Girlfriend
17 Days
When Doves Cry
Anna Stesia
The Holy River
Joy in Repetition
Kiss
Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance
Ripopgodazippa
Raspberry Beret
Christopher Tracy’s Parade
New Position
I Wonder U
Crystal Ball

Bear in mind it's not a career retrospective or a compilation of hits...it's somewhere in between. It's just a list of all my personal favourite commercially released tracks.

Additionally, I have already compiled a CD of all the Prince songs which I feel work rather well as sex music, they are either about sex or are great to have all aspects of sex to (in my personal experience)...shame that 70 odd minutes isn't long enough though...the CD calls for a repeat button...

Title: SEX WITH PRINCE

One Nite Alone
Curious Child
Dreaming About U
Soul Sanctuary
Ripopgodazippa
Little Red Corvette
Do Me, Baby
Pheromone
319
Kiss
New Position
I Wonder U
Erotic City
Lady Cab Driver
The Sensual Everafter

In this case these aren't my favourite songs (well, some of them are) just songs that work in the context, and which I do in fact LIKE...

I'm off to try it out... razz
