What Prince Song Has Affected U The Most?

Which song(s) have had the most affect on u personally and how? The first time I heard "7" it touched a spiritual side of me that I had never ever felt before. I'm just curious 2 see if any1 else had a similar experience.

I could listen to Anna stesia 100 times over and over again, and still feel like the song speaks to me spiritually and in a sexual/love kinda way. But I feel that way about most of his songs also. But the down spirited deepness and impact of love that Purple rain posseses captivates me everytime. They're all just too affecting aren't they??!

man, that song is so beautiful. I don't know...I can't decribe it. It's actually quite simple but it's moving.

Three songs: Anna Stesia- I've lived this song!

Holy River- perfectly sums up the experience I had when I proposed to my wife.

Positivity- This song actually saved my life! Years ago, I was utterly depressed, and on the verge of suicide. One afternoon I was close to the end, when I pressed play on my boom box. I had no idea that the tape in the deck was "Lovesexy" or that the song was cued up to point when Prince sings "In everyman's life there will be a hangup, a whirlwind designed 2 slow U down..." well, y'all know the rest. Needless to say, that song was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment. The song actually managed to make me question how I was handling my depression! I owe my life to a Prince song! smile

Thanx 4 sharing u're thoughts guys. Here iz another of mine :
At the end of 1999, I was down and out. Just graduated from high school, getting ready 2 head out 2 LA for college, but 4 some reason my head just wasn't on straight. All my friends were going in different directions, and my parents and I were constantly fighting. One day I put in Diamonds and Pearls, and just let it play. I wasn't really listening 2 it, and then "Walk Don't Walk" came on. I know it isn't Prince's best song, but those were the words that I had 2 hear at that moment.
"So U gotta walk / Like u wanna make it / Don't walk / Like u just can't take it..." It put a smile on my face, and reminded me that as long as I stayed true 2 myself, I would be alright.

Thanx again 4 sharing u're experiences!

Throughout his career, many of Prince's songs have struck a chord because of something happening in my life at the time. This isn't quite as deep as some of the posts here: It was almost Christmas break during my freshman year in college. My roomate and I were the last ones left in our dorm because we still had finals. We just kept playing "Another Lonely Christmas" over and over again. I still love to hear that song when the holidays approach. (I won't get into the "Do Me Baby" story about my college boyfriend, OK...)

everybody's looking for the ladder/everyone wants salvation for their soul/the steps you take are no easy road/but the reward is great for those who want to go!

The Ladder is the song that has had the most effect on me. When I was I was 16 I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type I. I was just starting college at the time and I began a heavy medication regiment. I managed to survive the next four years and graduate with my B.A. I started graduate school 3 months later but had to drop out because I was becoming manic. I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. I was diagnosed with an "axiolytic, drug induced depressive mania with psychotic features, severe, chronic." I had been through shock therapy, when my insurance ran out I was discharged from the hospital. I had lost my job. I became very depressed. I had dropped out of grad school, no job, no money...I decided I was going to kill myself. The doctor at the hospital prescribed me three months worth of medication before I left. I filled the prescriptions and went home. I took over 600 seroquel (an anti-psychotic) ground it up in a coffee grinder and then mixed it with some yougert and put it in a tupperware. I went to the beach that night. I didn't want my room mate to find me dead.

At the beach I was sitting in my car. I had Around The World In A Day in the cd player. The Ladder came on and I put it on repeat because it was soothing. I was hesitant. Not because I was scared but because I felt guilty...I wanted something to tell me that what I was doing was OK. I used those words from The Ladder to justify it and give me the go ahead. I ate the yougert with the pills in it. Within 2 or 3 minutes I became very sick to my stomach. I didn't want to vomit in my car (I thought after I was dead my parents would probably want to give it to my younger brother) so I got out but I was so sedated. I remember stumbling over the curb into the street. I was conscious but so sedated I couldn't get up. I passed out there. Appearantly I parked in a no parking zone and when the police came by to ticket my car they found me. I spent 6 weeks in a coma, another 4 months in a psychiatric ward. I had a hole drilled in my chest to have the vomit drained from my lungs, permanent liver damage, permanent heart damage, lost my drivers liscence, my gun liscence was revoked permanently, put under a conservatorship, and wound up with over 1 million dollars in medical bills that insurance wouldn't pay for. I filed bankruptcy. I'm 23 now, done with grad school, a lot better off psycholigically now that my meds are under control. I learned so much from that experience. Even though it was so terrible, it was filled with so much emotion, both good and bad. You can't let something go that is so emotionally charged. Needless to say, everytime I hear The Ladder I am reminded of this experience and the many important lessons I learned.

Hmm...hard one. I dont think Ive ever really cried over a P song...but um...Tori Amos' version of Purple Rain always gets me. Its just her voice and the piano. She does this blood curdling scream/sing at the end (U know, the "woo-hoo-hoo" part..) and it sounds like sheer agony. This coming after all that "Its such a shame r friendship had 2 end..) which Prince has changed 2 "I do believe this friendship will never end.." which I dont like..but I guess it changes the whole mood of the song.

Another song I love is Gold...its very uplifting..and a wonderful dramatic song..no mater what ppl say about it.

The Most BeautifulGirl I The World (single version) also is great. Its the song that got me listening 2 P...and its one of the most beautifully written songs he's ever done, IMHO.

The Beauiful One: I would say out of all the songs I have ever heard.. that is the best and reminds me of 1984 and I how I felt!!

The part I like is the middle.. when the keyboards .. start, then really jam!! and how it just "mimics" the lyrics "sort of"

I really love this song.. it goes from a ballad to rock in about a 4 minute song

"Annie Christian"...that song fucked with me for years...it sounded eerie, evil, surreal, and funky all at the same time...I remember blaring it on my Walkman constantly, listening to every sonic nook and cranny...

I actually thought I heard this agonizing, pain-filled voice yelling "Stop!!" towards the end of the song...after listening to it a million times in a row, I decided that it was just a fuzzed-out guitar chord or synth effect or something...but for awhile, thinking there was some pained voice wailing in there among all the lyrics about murdering "black children" and killing John Lennon, it just solidified in my mind that there was something almost otherwordly about it...I couldn't get it out of my head for the longest time...it's still one of my favorites.

Here's a few:

Comeback brought tears to my eyes, cuz he was singing something I believe. Plus, I think it was about his kid, which made it even more touching.

The Beautiful Ones because people wind up pregnant whenever it comes on.

Sign O' The Times sparked my intellectual side when I was a kid....so it has a special place in my heart.

and lastly....

If I Was Your Girlfriend cuz it's pure genius at it's best.

But I can't my finger on just one. They all affect me differently.

How could I forget 'The love we make'? the first time I heard this song I felt something in my stomache just sink and felt a lump in throat...you can tell he's really singing from the heart, truly, very, very touching, I played it over and over and it almost brought tears running down my face, but the same feeling just kept taking place, really affecting...

Just wanted to say I never cried during Prince music, then remembered I once did; the Rotterdam aftershow when he played The War. Somehow the words and the clautrophobic feel of it all made me cry.
But it might have been exhaustion too; LoL

For me as a songwriter it alsways the sublime combination of musical emotion linked to the right words.
CRYSTAL BALL had profound lyrics. The words AND the music had such power it blew me away.
HOW COME cuz it links emotion with the music too, but in a different way. CB is again claustrophobic, where HOW COME is so intimate, soulwrenching honest. The piano playing helps of course
But somehow the song I always identify with is GIRL, the America b-side. Most see it as a HOT lovesong, but somehow I have this feeling he was alone in the studio when recording that song and that it is about someone he can not have. So it always strikes me as lonely. And I KNEW lonely as a teenager.

OH!OH!
Chrissie Tracy is right! Paisley Park is da bomb; for me one of the only guitarsolo's that seem to stretch into infinity. Talking about the extended version of course. With those eerie seaguls. Awsome. The only other guitarsolo that did it for me was The Question Of U.
