'If I Could get Your Attention' was recorded at Sunset Sound studios in 1986. All instruments and arrangements on the album are credited to Bennett (Chico Bennett) on the album except were indicated in the liner notes and, for the track in question, guitar is credited to Greg Porter. The project was not overseen by Prince, and the album recording is credited as taking place at The Enterprise, Hollywood Sound, as oppposed to Paisley Park, which studios Prince had only begun working in three months before the album release. .
