DigitalGardin said: I'm sorry but the LOVESEXY album is way overrated...imo....out of all of Prince's CD's from the 80's, I think LOVESEXY is the weakest. "Anna Stesia", "When 2 R In Love" and "I Wish U Heaven" are gems but the rest of the album range from good("I Know", "Dance On") to alright ("Alphabet St.,Positivity") to WTF("Lovesexy" , "Glam Slam. ") I see why this CD barely went Gold in 1988....Prince has made many albums better than Lovesexy with better songs. Anyone else think Lovesexy is HIGHLY overrated. I know most of yall love that album on here but I definitely dont hear it
The thing that bugs me about all the praise "Lovesexy" gets is that there aint nothing on this record that was not already done, and done better, on "The Black Album." Listen closely to "Cindy C," "Le Grind," and "Rockhard and a Funky Place" and you will hear the musical (not lyrical) roots for most of "Lovesexy." To me “Lovesexy” is a watered down (musically) version of “The Black Album.” That’s a little too reductive but I think, if you play these two records back to back a couple times you’ll see where I’m coming from. ego tripping out

You know what? I was 7 when this album was released, so to me the *experience* has nothing to do with it. The album in and of itself is great. To me, it is so different that it almost becomes timeless. Sure, the first couple of times I heard it, I was thinking "wtf?" That was because I didn't have another musical baseline to compare it to...but when I stopped comparing, I was able to enjoy it. And I would gladly take LoveSexy over Musicology any day. As far as it being better than TRC...I don't know about that...they're both in my top 5, buy they're probably tied. --Act a little silly ya'll the Atlanta88 show.. I think I had a copy of that show somewhere. Do you know if he has ever played Savannah?

I agree about the production similarities. That's true for most of album lineage. I would have loved to have those released as one double album. The black album was angry/ tortured and lovesexy was forgiving/ spiritually free. At the time, chewymusic and I were in boot/lovesexy/concert heaven

Musically, Lovesexy is pretty dull, but what really makes this a uniquely poor album are the atrocious, immature and (often) insane lyrics. It's just one long 40 minute spew of hippie bollocks....

Well, there are at least two of us who share that particular mind-set - I'll take Come any day. It has (mostly) well written songs with lyrics that do not suggest mental collapse on Prince's part - except for papa, maybe.

"Dark" and "Pheromone" are good songs from COME..I even like the title track but Lovesexy has "Anna Stesia", "Dance On", "I Know", "I WIsh U Heaven", "When 2 R In Love" so I would say Lovesexy is better musically but its not ALL THAT!

Prince's comment in Rolling Stone and elsewhere in the early 90's was that Lovesexy was one of those albums where the listener either had a "mind-blowing experience" or they didn't. It took me a few listens to really "get" the album, but since then, I have considered it one of his very best albums.
The music is outstanding, the lyrics are spiritual, accessible, and funny, and thematically, in expressing the tensions between sex and spirituality, good and evil, Prince hits all the right notes. Lovesexy is a "state of mind" in Prince's career, and we hear echoes of it even in his current work. I can understand that folk disagree. Some people find TRC just as much a revelation. To quote "Escape," it's a matter of taste. I will say this tho: I don't know how y'all can hate on " No." It's one of the best Prince tracks ever. I feel that LoveSexy was the worst album P put out in the 80's. After SOTT, it's very hard to come with something better. I'll AnnaStesia is ALL THAT. Now GLAM SLAM i did not like until i saw the video. It is one of my favorite videos by P and that's what made me like the song. Other than those 2, the rest of the album is forgettable.

Well, when you line Lovesexy up against the other official album releases of the 1980's, you could make the argument that Lovesexy is the weakest of the bunch. It wouldn't be a very strong argument IMHO, because it would be hard to say that Lovesexy is inferior to ATWIAD or Batman. But it is a legit argument to make.
