The Failure Of Musicology What's the fuss over Musicology, it's not that great.The production quality is shitty, especially on A Million Days which is a decent song marred by sub standard instrumentation and crude production techniques. The title track is amusing for about 2 minutes and then starts to dwindle into stupidity it's just a dumb groove. The ballads are cheesy and sappy and the lyrics are just downright embarassing especially on Cinnamon Girl which could have been a decent song. It's really not quite that good. I don't see what the big deal is about. It's only selling because he's promoting it well but most of it is unlistenable. It's not a classic, it's trash. Fair enough. Y've expressed yr feelings in a mature manner and have stated yr views in the albums negative points with fair and backed up knowledge.

YES!! You guys are WRONG to flame this guy. He is CORRECT! And as a Prince fan he has a right to state his opinion here on the ORG.
I love Prince. Always been a diehard fan. I inhale every new album he releases. But I'll say it again (not to his face of course) -- but MUSICOLOGY is an incredibly lack-luster album of Prince music. Yeah, I know, Prince albums take time to grow on you. Believe me, I experienced that with Sign O The Times, and Lovesexy. But right from the get-go with Musicology, you could just tell it was uninspired. The songs are very very bland. We've heard it all before, only much better! I thought this was the place where we could intelligently express our opinions?! If you enjoy Musicology, great, but come on--it is nowhere near deserving of all the praise compared to past albums... | |

It's amazing to me when some people on these boards try to convince everyone else that Musicology isn't a hit. Ya'll need to give it up. The album has gone platinum. If you don't like it, that's cool. But it's just your opinion. Allow everyone else to enjoy the album and it's success. I really have to question sometimes if some of you are really Prince fans, or if you've chosen this board to try to antagonize people who are obviously enjoying Prince's new success. | |

As a occasional whinger and complainer and naysayer... I'm all for negative criticism here at the .org. .... at least the Personality Police ( ) can't get u here..... but I would n't say that Musicolgy was trash or shit....
maybe "not very good" or "mediocre" or "slightly pedestrian" come to mind.... shitty and trash..... no. ------------------------------

I think I can speak for the majority when I say that I'm glad that I don't see what you're saying. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

No, I don't see what you're saying. Personally, I like Musicology... and like most, I like some tracks better than others (my fav is Illlusion, Coma Pimp and Circumstance). I appreciate that other fans prefer different incarnations of Prince and various types of sounds, but there is no denying that his musicianship and talent are present in every effort he puts out. I think prince fans like myself who has owned most of his releases music will be disapointed only because most of the music sounds allot like old prince music and because if you have most of his music already, it will sound like you have heard these songs before. but if you sit down with the lyrics and listen to the cd at the same time, you will be trully impressed with the way prince writes music. He is lyricly amasing in my opinion. But you really have to listen. You cant just kinda listen, or you will miss the genious. People who do not have allot ot prince music may be more impressed than his devoted fans. | |
