Strange Relationship: SOTT version or Aladdin DVD joint? I've been loving "Strange Relationship" lately, and actually like the Aladdin DVD version just a slight bit more than the SOTT version. They're both really good, but the DVD version just had that little bit of extra flava. What's on ya'lls minds on this hot joint? However, the BEST version I've heard is from Those of U on Valium - is a rehersal show Prince did at 1st Ave in 1987. Just funky as all hell. I also love the version on One Night Alone...Live!...the version on the DVD is good too.

And yeah, that's my favorite version too. The demo is a close second, with the indian sitar kind of thing going on during the intro. edit: hey the "valium" version comes in at 13 minutes too - so, it's the extended verison, sort of. The weird things he does with the bass line for instance and the way he stutters the word 'relationship-ship-ship' prince at his loopy weird best. Now, the live version is prince as an even better musician and singer. He is clearly miming Ray Charles here vocally and on Piano, fantastic.

The "valium" version knocks my freakin socks off! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Strange relationship is one of my all time favorites. I love the punchy, fresh version on one of the Xenophobia discs.
But I love the jam that started it all! At the end of the 45-minute Billy's Sunglasses, Prince starts to play the chord progression that ended up as Strange Relationship.
