Prince has such a varied musical taste running the gamut from ballet to minstrelry, he's brilliant in his incorporations, I'm sure that pose is a stance of some sort, I couldn't tell you from where.
Once I was watching a Duke Ellington short from the forties and I saw a girl doing Prince poses in it, or rather Prince had seen this obscure short and decided that this little weird motion with his forefinger should be in his Purple Rain show. Strange and wonderful how he has been so unabashedly open to his influences. People make a big deal out of him not listening to any new music but any musician tends to dismiss the younger musicians.
