If eye was the man in ur life

I love this song. The staccato piano line, The beautiful melody. the chorus ranks as one of Princes great melodic hooks in my opinion. the ending reminds me of Revolution era work.

This song is the best song on Musicology. It sounds very complete without being overdone. This should be his next single.

I really like this one I a lot, but I LOVE 'The Marrying Kind'...but then again, they both sort of the same song.

I don't think that they are sort of the same song. They mix from one to the other very well, but they have an entirely different feel. "If Eye Was the Man In Ur Life" has a slamming bass line and is much funkier than "The Marrying Kind". As a matter of fact, "The Marrying Kind" is not funky at all. It is more of a Pop/Rock song. Now I am not saying that "The Marrying Kind" is a bad song, just that it sounds entirely different from "If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life". The reason that people THINK that they sound the same, is because they have a very smooth transition. Add to that the fact the Prince is known for using several styles in one song. So if you did not know any better, you would think that they are one song in which he changes the style halfway through.

...and since no one knows... they could very well have started out that way.

I never said they did not start out that way. They very well may have. All I am saying is, now they are tracked as two separate songs which don't sound alike. Other people have posted on this thread that the songs sound alike or are basically the same song. IMO they do not sound alike. And because they are two separate tracks, I consider them two entirely different songs.

I was talking about the blending of one song into the other that makes it seem like one song. They are two songs with different type of styles.

Fair enough, when I read your original post, I thought that you were saying that the songs sounded the same. So I stated that IMO they do not sound the same. Thanks for clarifying yourself and sorry if I misunderstood you original post.

I do agree with you that the transition is so smooth that it could be mistaken for one song.

I also like "If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life" much more than "The Marrying Kind".

It sounds like the bridge to Marrying Kind...much like in The Continental when the bridge is when Prince sings, "tell me how you want to be done.." and the music changes completely from what it started as...
"Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

The Marrying Kind/If Eye Was the Man In Ur Life are the twin peaks of Musicology.
