Freeze

The War

Considering the fact that this song was a internet only intial release and the fact that it took me almost 4 years to listen to the song I am curious what others think of this 27 min marathon. I think the song is really cool and has this eerie dark side to it with the big brother is watching mentality about it. Just makes me wonder what weird shyt was going on in his head at the time when he wrote this song. The beat and the background chorus is really catchy and for the time period which I could be mistaken but I think it was in 97 or 98 was one of this better things that he did. I wish he would have included it on Crystal Ball.

I love it.

It's bizarre that it was made in amidst the NPS era, where Prince was making some of his most derivitive, tiresome music of his career - and he pops this one out of the blue.

A definate pre-cursor to the themes on The Rainbow Children.

How about putting this one up in the Musicology store over at NPGMC, huh? smile

I think the tape of the war is available in the Retail section of the site.

It was originally sent as an extra freebie to people who bought the Crystal Ball through New Funk - well that's how I got mine!

My version is 26 minutes long, though apparently it was edited down from it's original even longer length.

I like it a lot more now than when I first heard it - it is good to hear Prince doing serious, grown-up, moody music, he should do more like this.

I think it was originally about 40 minutes or so. Wasn't it recorded at Paisley? He played a much shorter version at The Hippodrome aftershow in 98 with a weird funky tag on the end where he chants 'I wish there were 4 of me 2 go with the other 3?'
I've always liked that track and I only have the original version on a CDR neutral

Yes it was recorded originally at Paisley. I was there when he recorded it and yes was longer that the tape. That night was so different that there was like a hypnotic buzz in the room.

Ahhh, right - haven't been into the retail section for quite a while, I got my tape through New Funk too, although I got a CD-R from someone who was sending them out (remember the stuff about making a trading 'tree' - that was pretty neat).

I never bothered getting the CD single since it was pretty pricey last time I looked.

I've got it copied to CD-R from the original CD. I'd rather have the real thing but it'll do.

Great smoking tune BTW blunt
