It's amazing I must say that Purple Rain is my favorite Prince Album. Imagine how good the album could have been if Electric Intercourse, 17 Day, Erotic City, etc. had been added. There could have been at least 7 singles taken off the album. It could have stayed on the charts for 3 years like Thriller did. | |

It still could've stayed on the charts that long if Prince wanted it to, cause literally every song on that album is a hit.
I would've added 17 Days to it, it fits the theme and flow of the album (there was a thread about this already though). It's still incredible though, cause it's got those absolutely classic songs like Beautiful Ones, When Doves Cry, and Purple Rain. You need those songs as a Prince fan. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I don't actually think lengthening the album would have helped - when albums go on too long they can lose their punch. Purple Rain was just the right lengh. It's only when you become a hardcore fan that you start wanting more! For instance, they could have gone the way of Graffiti Bridge, turned it into a double album and included all the associated music from the Time and Appolonia 6 from the film - would that have strengthened it or weakened it? Though I would have loved that slow piano version of 'Father's Song' to be included. It's just so pivotal and emotional in the movie. | |
