interested in which version people prefer.
although i like prince's version i'd have to say sinead o'connor's version is the best; just sends a shiver down the old spine.

The one he performed on Ellen about a month ago. Never really cared for the song until I heard this version.

I love Prince's version with Rosie Gaines just a little more than Sinead's. Sinead's video for this song was brilliant though.

I agree with this. Sinead did a great job and her video is very moving, but Prince and Rosie kick ass!!

What would really kick ass is a version of just Prince! I thought he tore that song up on the Ellen show!!! Rosie irritates me on that song!

I never cared for Sineads version. I haven't heard the Elen performance. My favourite so far is the one on ONA Live CD.

Ahh come on prince heads!! Sinead's version is definitely the one. She gets it just right. If you hear the song in the right mood it can be quite moving.

Prince always seems to send the song into a big over the top melodrama with the horns etc.
I want to see him just do a full lengh version. Just him and the piano. Now that would be nice smile

Princes version is rubbish - Im not sure if tehre is a studio version but the 'live' one on The Hits is poor, it has no feeling, surely its not meant to be a duet and with Rosie Gaines howling along it can only be bad.

Sinead MEANT that song, it has feeling, depth and teh video is made even more powerful by teh fact that she is really crying over a recent break up.

Sorry - as much as I would love to put it on to show all my mates how teh song should be this is one of Prince songs that he does second best

Agreed, Sinead's sucked IMO... 'The Family's' was way better with Prince and Rosie a close second.

Sinead's version is ten times better than Prince's version with Rosie.

I LOVE Prince's version til Rosie comes in belting every line out and ruining the whole thing.

I thought the version on the Hits was poor - there's that bit of feedback near the beginning and some of the timing between Prince and Rosie when they overlap sounds a bit out in my opinion.

Everybody had forgotten the original Family version until Sinead came along and took it to another level. Then suddenly Prince started playing it live, as if to childishly say, hey, this is really one of mine, you know!

It's a great song whoever sings it - but if it wasn't for Sinead we wouldn't even be discussing it now.

Prince version is actually the weakest, and I never liked it. Sinead's is the best, and the Family's is also very good too.

I prefer the Family's version and then Sinead's. I only started liking P's version recently, the best I have heard was on the Ellen show and at the dallas show on the 2nd of April. But of all the recorded versions I like the original by the Family the best.

Sinead's version of this track is BY FAR my favorite...

the only reason I like when Prince plays it live is that I can go to the bathroom without fearing I'm missing something.

What people often miss is the fact that Sinead's version is a song about loss and heartbreak, where as whne Prince does it it is a love song about getting back together for "one more try..."
"New Power slide...."

I hate it when P sings this song...so smaltzy.

Actually the only one who can sing this is Sinead IMO. She's also the only one who can sing Don't cry for me Argentina that doesn't make me cringe.

And what's funny is that it's like the ONLY song where I don't like his version. Usually I PREFER his versions over others i.e. All Day All Night.

i like sinea-nea's version, and i like the family's version a lot too. i'm kinda so-so on the live version on "the hits" though i agree that rosie's melisma kinda dampens it for me. i don't like it when he does this song live because he always makes the audience sing the chorus. i'm there to hear HIM damn sing, not to hear the schmoes standing around me, rackem-frackem mumble-grumble... mad

My alltime favorite version of that song is Prince´s version from 1991....the one he sang in Argentinia ( Buenos Aires ) and later in Spain( La Coruna) ...Sinead can´t even come close to that version...just Prince and his piano, no Rosie , no horns, no Sinead....perfect !!!
Go check it out, you´ll love it .
What a shame he gave Screams of Passion away to the Family. Two wasted opportunities, should ´ve kept them for himself like he did with Kiss.

Sinead is the one, for sure. I'm not even sure why P performs this so much. When he does it, the song seems like such a pedestrian blues/gospel song. Sinead's arrangement has this strong classical feel to it.

cool Sinead' s version is much better than his. I think the version he did with Rosie is also better than his own. Out of all the Prince songs covered by other artist(s). Sinead's cover of that song was the best. music

Okay enough already with this song ... granted it is good but he has been playing it for like the past 10yrs all the frigging time..... I think this is one Hit that he can retire and play something else in concert like " 4 Ever in my Life " which I would love to see performed live
