Prince: Speakerboxxx or The Love Below? Since Outkast is @ times are said 2 hava bit of Prince-like qualities. & Outkast has a double single album out "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below"(which is gonna be counted as 2 ALBUMS!! ).
"Speakerboxxx"-Big Boi "The Love Below"-Andre 3000 Which do ya think Prince is more like/would like betta? IMO I think he'll like "The Love Below"-Andre 3000. My 2004 August Highlights: *Tuesday 24th*-best day of my lifeI get my *LEARNERS*-Oh yeah it's ALL good!!

Then your opinon is right, well imo Andres The Love Below sounds just like a Prince album and it really wouldn't surprise me if Andre was listening to all the 80's P whilst he was doing the album. Big Bois Speakerboxxx is more early 90's P and so therefore most ppl even P wouldn't like him/it as much So Andre hands down for me. If god one day struck me blind,
Your beauty i'd still see.

Definite Co-sign. It'd be funny 2 see Prince in Andre's outfit he had on in the "Roses" video. & Andre in 1 of Prince's outfits of the 80s. 1999..PR..& etc. My 2004 August Highlights: *Tuesday 24th*-best day of my lifeI get my *LEARNERS*-Oh yeah it's ALL good!!

personally when i listened to it i only thought one track which like track 8 or 9 "she's always in my lap" reminded me of prince, the rest of the album is good but is not reminscent of prince in my opinion. i never get the media, they hype things up to be something its not. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think that Andre 3000's CD "The Love Below" sounds like Prince the most. "Speakerboxxx" is just a hip-hop jump-off point. Check me out and add me on:

The Love Below sounds alot like P imo. The lyrics, the music, it all sounds like P for example these lyrics:
'I... I can't read minds, but I can read yours I think she says that she wants to pour your.. your... yourself all over me What you think? I could be wrong, but peoples don't lie And if they do, by God, they must fry! (fry?!) You know, like electric chair The way you stare (yeah I'm there) You committed a crime and I'm the victim' ^^ Now that reads and sounds like something P would have done to me and track 8 'She Lives In My Lap' is basically 'She's Always In My Hair'. I suggest giving it a listen, i personally thought it was a great album. If god one day struck me blind,
Your beauty i'd still see.

The Love Below, definitely; however, many people tend to forget that Kast's Stankonia had Prince-influences written all over it.
"Ms. Jackson"-reversed congas drum throughout the song as well as the reversed snare hit resemble a lot of mid-80s Prince. "B.O.B."-always had that SOTT Sheila E.-type druming to it. "Red Velvet"-Linn Drums all over this track as well as the screwed and Camille-type voices. "Toilet Tisha"-very Prince-like.

P always wanted to put hip-hop into his sound but didn't quite get it right. Andre is doing what Prince tried to do in the 90's-- and quite successfully in my opinion.

Kelo07 I m not a big fan of hip hop myself but I took a chance buying the album as they are together and let's me tell you I've been spinning the thing for months. It's well worth putting hands on, a truly great album and a great spin over the lame getto bling, bling bulshit. Kast baby *********************************************

Yes it is. Once I heard "Where are my panties"...which was the FIRST song I heard, I knew right then I had to have it. It's less Prince like that people say it is. It is certainly a lot more INFLUENCED by him than anything. I have known more people to pick this up on word of mouth alone...or even by playing one song. I have recommended it to almost everyone I know. Short Desc on Love Below/Speakerboxxx: Speakerboxxx - Hip-Hop side of things with a side of R&B. More rapping (good rapping) than the other disc. This is the Disc you play to get the party started. Good trax: Ghetto muzik, The way you move, The Rooster, CHurch, Bowtie and Bamboo The Love below - R&B side of things with a side of Hip-Hop. More humor exists on this disc and the writing is supurb. This is the disc you play when setting up the party. Good Trax: Love Hater, She Lives in my lap, Spread, Hey Ya and the Funktabulous Drakulas Wedding. Christian Zombie Vampires

Yes definitely if you haven't checked it out already go & do it.
Both albums are good but have to admit 'Love Below' Andre 3000 is the one for me. I agree 'She lives in my lap' definitley has a Prince sound to it, with so much trash going around its good to see that still good stuff out there.

imo,
The love below is the best thing to come out until, musicology. Dre took it to another level. "She lives in my lap" is reminiscent of "she's always in my hair" I am glad that there are still people like Prince and Dre, who are in it more for the love of music. But would P be impressed with "Love Below"? I doubt it. Andre to me is an imitator of Prince and I think Prince sees that. Being a musician, I know the crucial difference between being "influenced" by someone and "copying" someone. To me, "The Love Below" and Andre's performances strike me as copying not only Prince, but Parliament-Funkadelic as well. Andre's wardrobe is straight Parliament. Andre's more imitator than anything. I don't take him seriously. The same with him playing Hendrix in the upcoming film. I'm pretty sure he'll do a good job playing Hendrix, just like he does a good job "playing" Prince. I like Andre. He's fun to watch, especially if you like Parliament and Prince, which I do. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

If you listened to The Love Below you'd know that neither Clinton nor Prince could make this album. There is a hip-hop feel to it and Dre can rap his ass off when he wants to. Songs like Happy Valentines Day, Spread and Dracula's Wedding show an imagination that you couldn't fake. Perhaps Andre conjures the spirits of his influences but he mixes them together in his own creations (much like Prince does I might add). Oh, and let's stop comparing She Lives In My Lap and She's Always In My Hair. Thematically they are the same but musically they aren't. P wasn't the first nor the last to use that theme.

I totally agree with you there. More influence than imitation. The songs you pick out are fine examples of this…as well as One Of My Favorite Things & Hey ya (sounds like NOTHING else…much less hip hop or rap). There’s PLENTY of creativity on the Love Below. Outkast did not just come out on the scene and do this record…they are a duo with MUCH history and critically acclaimed albums under their belt. Take it for what it’s worth but Andre said he wasn’t really thinking about any influences in particular when making this record. He also said he’s tired of the same ol same ol sounding of hip hop and rap. He’s also older than he was when he started….and we’ve seen a certain artist go through growth and changes and tug on the influences (um Musicology is pulling on the pant leg of James Brown..as was the Work and Pretty Man) of his predicessors. And to put it to rest…She lives in my lap has more in common with Ballad of Dorothy Parker than She’s always in my hair. It’s the Drum track. Christian Zombie Vampires

Best song of the year easy. And Ms. Jackson as far as the rap, hip hop genre goes was very different. Outkast hasn't just started, no. But they are a duo. Andre on the level of P as a musical genuis? I don't know what drugs people are taking today, but that's way out there. Like I said before, I like Andre. He's a breath of fresh air, as well as Big Boi. The first time I heard "Roses" I cracked up. When did this hip-hop group start to believe they could really do vocals???
Dre's voice sounds awful. U can have as much attitude and style as u like, but the guy just can't sing! I prefer my singers to be able to sing. It's quite an important part of singing, being able to. The beats are average, lyrics amusing but throw-away. Nothing really memorable in the long-term, although ok for the climate now and probably for a couple of years before the impending obscurity. Very forced and disjointed eclecticism. They remind me of soft-drink or candy products that are released for limited periods (Vanilla Coke, Cherry Coke, Tab Clear, sickeningly sweet new bubblegum flavours) that are popular for a short time but ultimately are too much for consumers, who inevitably go back to their tried and trusted favourites (Coke, Prince, competent singing). I don't think Prince would love the album but he may like a few parts of it. I think it may annoy him honestly. ... [This message was edited Tue May 18 20:36:23 2004 by Famboozled]

Dre's voice sounds awful. U can have as much attitude and style as u like, but the guy just can't sing! I prefer my singers to be able to sing. It's quite an important part of singing, being able to. it's not meant to be good. Have you ever heard ODB croon? He's awful, but I love hearing him try. (Think Sweet Sugar Pie) Andre represents the average joe. That's what makes his singing likeable. He sings songs anyone can sing. (Try to sing along with Dwele once and you'll know Andre is much easier to sing along to.) I heard someone say, that's what separates a singer's singer from a regular singer. Andre is a regular singer or crooner, if you will. He's just like any average guy out there with guts enough to try to woo a girl by singing. If a guy got up the guts to sing to me, I'd be flattered and probably blush the whole time. You missed the point on this one. "Pedro offers you his protection."
