Prince could learn something from Lenny Kravitz!

Lenny Kravitz was a guest on Howard Stern today and he answered all Howard's sex questions with very cool and reasoned answers. He was good natured and good humored about it, but still got his message across and didn't get offended by anything. He also got to promote his album to millions of Stern's listeners. I would love to hear Prince be interviewed by Howard, but I just don't think he could handle it. He needs to study this Lenny interview though and see how it's done!

I heard the interview from beginning to end this morning, and Lenny did not answer one I will say it again one question thet pertained to sex. So you are wrong from the start. I give him the upmost respect for not answering personal questions. He has that right and he stuck by his guns on that subjest. Prince has done many interviews this year. Why would he need to take lessons from lenny on how to give an interview? Yes it would be nice if Prince was on howards show from a business standpoint, But he by no means needs Howard. I think that it would be a very interesting interview as long as howard did his homework on what to ask and what not to ask. Howard is a fan and I think that he would be very professional. He treated Paul McCartney with much respect.

in that respect, Lenny bows to the master, Prince.

I don't think Lenny is a Prince wannabe, Jimi and Lennon were clearly his biggest influences.
He respects Prince 4 what he's done musically and 4 the manner in which he delivers his work.

In some ways he tries to emulate what Prince has done in the past, if anything, like many other he learnt from Prince.

I think his track on the new Jimi tribute album is one of the best efforts in that whole project.

Um...have you seen the cover of his new disc? The hair is straight outta Graffiti Bridge!!!

Not to mention that Lenny decided to play all of the instruments himself on this album. Hmm...where'd he get THAT idea? eek

I love some of Lenny's songs...they're classic rock rip offs but they've got a lot of spunk. But to say that he doesn't try to emulate Prince in many ways? Whether he'd tell you it's conscious or not, he's doing it big time...

actually, i don't really see Lenny emulating Prince. here's how i see it....

Prince and Lenny have a lot of similar influences. Hendrix, Sly Stone, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder... even the Beatles, Joni, etc.

throughout his career, Prince has very deftly assimilated all of his influences, distilled them, filtered them, mixed them, and come up with something incredibly original of his own. the influences can be heard, but he almost always runs them through his Paisley Park/NPG/whatever Bozoputer and turned them into something brand new.

Lenny, on the other hand, wears his influences on his sleeve. and while he is very talented at emulating those influences (Prince included), it's more of a regurgitation rather than doing anything new with them. on all of his albums, here's the Stevie song.... here's the Marvin song... here's the Hendrix song.....

so i don't think he's necessarily copying Prince. i think their (same) influences just speak through them in different ways.

Definitely the other way around!

Not nearly as much output nor creativity. Good writer and decent songs...but can't touch Prince by a long shot. And I like Lenny too.

aww, the power of PRINCE and his sound. KRAVITZ can't help that he wants 2 be PRINCE. that was clear during his ROMEO BLUE period, besides he even admitted it. of the wannabees, he has been the most successful in this endeavor. every musician i know, who is a PRINCE fan can't help but have a similar sound. it will come out somewhere in their music.

lately, KRAVITZ looks EXACTLY like PRINCE, circa 1978-1981. he has straightened his hair.

BY THE WAY, I LOVE KRAVITZ...

My only comment to you would be; "Do your homework!" Lenny has been playing all if not most of the instruments on ALL of his albums since his first album came out 15 years ago!! He didn't "just" start doing it with this album. Prince was NOT the first musician to do this. I personally have a tremendous amount of respect for any musician who writes, plays, sings, and produces his/her own stuff! To take pot-shots at Lenny as a "ripoff",or a "Prince wannabee", just means one of two things about those that say it; 1.) They just don't like Lenny, his music/message. Which is fine to each their own. Or; 2.) They've not spent any time really listening to any of his albums,or lyrics. Which just means they're lashing out because God forbid any musician who just happens to be black straighten his hair because Prince did it before him??? What about Little Richard and J.B. before him? Who cares how anybody wears their hair,or if they have piercings or tattoo's? It's about the MUSIC. And at the end of the day, either you get it, or you don't! But it's just silly for some people to "judge the book" before they "turn the pages."

Tell me this...? Just why was it ok for Prince to straighten his hair, but it's not ok for Lenny? And I'd love for you to re-post your thread about how Lenny ripped off Bob Marley, coz Lenny wore dreads after Bob did it? Oh that's right you can't, because you and others didn't complain about that particular silly topic!!

And what exactly is Lenny's message in 2004? Gee, it's hard to be a rock star and all the excessive partying's killing me. Profound. Some of his music's ok, and I like that new moment in the video where he's butt-humping the piano...cute Jimi/Richard amalgamation, but he really doesn't have much interesting to say, in my book.

Oh and "Illusion,Coma..." has a deep profound message? Cute how Prince used to "jerk" his guitar like Jimi, hump the the speaker cabinets like...talk about amalgamation. Sounds like your "book" is more like a pamphlet.

well, if it doesn't have much more to say, it kills just about any Lenny song in a moment simply by virtue of having a sense of humor. And that comment about jimi/richard was not sarcastic, Mr. sensitive. I like Lenny's energy, just wish he'd dig a little deeper.

I've heard his CD and it's not bad, not great, but not bad.

It amazes me how some people can judge some artists' work and think that they're (the artist) is milking all fans by getting them to buy it.

Heck, in that case, Prince has done that with every CD he's ever put out, because I'm sure for each fan that loved it, there was someone that hated it.

Just face it, you hate the new LK cd and thank god it's your only opinion. You don't speak for everyone.

Are Prince and Lenny Still Friends? I love Lenny's work but I Don't Think Prince has to Learn from Lenny Anything cause Both have their Own Personalities ya know. Well, Prince Could do Stern and just give Stern a list of Questions to ask him. Maybe Prince isn't into Stern ya Know Prince talks about how he isn't into the POTTY MOUTH. Maybe it's the Jehovah and this wouldn't be WISE STERN...

Lenny's new hair do was the source of great amusement on the very same show Prince was interviewed on last week in Australia. Rove called the style a "ladycut" and proceeded with hilarity to show Lenny's hair (roughly photoshopped) on other celebrities, Gary Coleman included.
The whole thing made me nervous, thinking there would be a Prince reference there somewhere (since it looked just like the Rave hair, after a night in hot rollers) luckily, since Prince may have been watching, there was none.
