PARADE--how come there's no Ultimate soundtrack?

After recently seeing "Under the Cherry Moon" again, I was astounded at all the incredible instrumental Prince music happening throughout each scene (particularly the opening piano sequence).

I know some trax made it to B-sides, like "Love or Money" and "Alexa de Paris"--which is one of my favorite pieces of music by Himself....but....

....does anybody know why or if Prince wouldn't release the COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK?

The rights to the master recordings of many if not all of the songs featured on the soundtrack of the film are not held by Prince.

I loved the opening istrumental! It's actually the slowed-down, orchestrated version of "An Honest Man"...

Maybe Warner Brothers, in an effort to make still more money off of Prince, will release a cd of the score for it's 20th anniversary? While this wouldn't seem like a big seller to a general audience, you know that WB knows what a strong fan base he has.

Better yet, they could include a score disc with a 20th anniversary dvd release.

Well, we can dream, right?

That's one of my favourite Prince tracks.

I'm sill vehemently dissappointed that the track on Crystal Ball is that *thing* and not the UTCM version. neutral

It would be nice to see Parade all gussied up as one of those "Deluxe Edition" re-issues, with spruced up packaging and liner notes and a second disc of extras...I have a couple of albums in this series (Weezer, Sonic Youth) and they're delicious.

It may be that Warner's don't realise they are sitting on a great money-spinning potential - re-releasing re-mastered re-packaged Prince albums. They seem content to release just the usual greatest hits packages. A lot of those Prince albums didn't sell as well as expected at the time - but with hindsight, they have got a lot more critical acclaim and musos in general would now be more interested in Prince's back catalogue.

Even a collection of love songs or ballads of more obscure album tracks would be interesting.

However, it must be difficult to promote any re-issues when the artist is no longer on their label and won't help in the promotion.

how friggin good is that piano piece right before he goes out to dance with mary to alexa de paris?!!

fwhooo! sounds like a variation of 'an honest man', but ohhh it so good.

the opening sequence, mia boca, love or money, alexa, madhouse junkmusic, and later when he pays for the lady in white...

it scares me how good it is.

I'm veering slightly off the topic here, but I'll tell you what I would love to see released: live recordings from the 86 and 87 tours. These tours really marked the point where Prince established himself as a phenomenal live performer. True, there are bootlegs galore, but they don't really satisfy me - I want the polished stereo sound with the screaming teenagers edited out. I think this is a gaping hole in his discography, and it was not filled in the least by One Nite Alone.

The Sonic Youth re-issue is really good, nice packaging and nice remastering. Too bad Prince wasn't on DGC. Warner's is just plain lazy with CD re-issues and DVDs, not to mention the back-catalog fued with Prince.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
