I love Crystal Ball, like Hide the Bone, Dream Factory, Movie Star, and a few others, but my god, Lovesign, 2morrow, Acknowledge Me, So Dark, Tell Me How U Wanna Be Done are so unbelievably mediocre. It's really making me realize one of the reasons I love the new album is that it doesn't rely as heavily on drum programming, and the stuff that's there doesn't sound like it's trying so hard to be "down." I love So Dark I actually like it much better than Dark. I thought How U Wanna Be Done was the bomb. I mean this is some serious R&B you aren't digging. Maybe you don't like R&B and that's cool. But I think some of the songs you think are mediocre are awesome. I don't get that he was trying to be down so much as he was just being his regular funky self.
