It's funny, I'm listening to disc 1 right now for the first time in ages, and there is A LOT of crap on here.
I love Crystal Ball, like Hide the Bone, Dream Factory, Movie Star, and a few others, but my god, Lovesign, 2morrow, Acknowledge Me, So Dark, Tell Me How U Wanna Be Done are so unbelievably mediocre. It's really making me realize one of the reasons I love the new album is that it doesn't rely as heavily on drum programming, and the stuff that's there doesn't sound like it's trying so hard to be "down." It's like he pioneered his own sort of drum programming, and some of the programmed '90s stuff just sounds like he's trying to play catch-up, when he's clearly got the skills to work in an entirely different game. Lovesign and So Dark, especially, they just drift off into anonymity to me. But it's all personal taste. | |
