I heard that his 1988 album, Lovesexy was his worst selling album ever. I also heard that Lovesexy got mixed reviews. I don't have the album so I wouldn't know about it, but I don't know if I should buy it or not. What do you think about it? Do You think I should buy it?

You should buy it. The reason why it got mixed reviews is because they were so worried about the cover that they didn't pay attention to the songs. This album is funky and don't let anybody tell you different.

Of course it is not his worst selling album, and of course it is a great album as viewed by most prince fans. So buy it if you like Prince.

Lovesexy took a long time to grow on me. I bought it when I was 16 or 17, and barely listened to it. It was something that I listened to once, thought it was weird, and then it sat on my shelf for about three or four years. I threw it in again after all that time, and thought "My God, I must be a dumb motherfucker of the highest order. This is brilliant!"

Maybe it's an age thing. It's a mature album that requires a fully developed person (spiritually and psychologically) to enjoy it. When I listen to this album, I don't hear a wasted breath or a single pointless note. It's pure, rapturous joy captured on record. This is the spiritual side of Prince that I enjoy... fully in touch with sexuality and spirituality, and allowing them to coexist in complete harmony while occupying the same space and time. It's not weighed down with Dogma or scripture.

This is, in my estimation, one of Prince's five greatest albums, and certainly his most emotionally evocative. When I'm depressed, this seems to find it's own way into my CD player, and when it's over I feel better. This is an album that people won't fully appreciate for years, because it takes time to get to know it. But mark my words : 100 years from now, when people talk about the great records of the 20th century, this will be on the tip of everybodys tongue.

And, if I happen to be wrong about that, then it's because I accidentally gave the human race too much credit. But I believe that people who know and love music will return to this album until the end of our world.

clapping...I TOTALLY agree with eveything you stated here!!! The same thing happened to me here when it 'hit' me. I was like, what the heck was I thinking all this time leaving this one aside!!! The first time I played it, it didn't last more than 2 min. on my player. It's funny how one day this all changed when it just took over. I play a lot of other CD's & this one is a natural high, this CD is really special, spiritual on levels others CANNOT touch, and I mean other artists and albums as well. One of the best MUSIC ever! I used to see the talk about this album on the site and didn't understand, until I said, 'Now I know what they're talking about'. Nothing will ever change my mind about 'Lovesexy is the one'!!!

It's actually the opposite for me. When I first heard Lovesexy I thought it was fucking incredible.

After hearing it many, many times over though, I just got really tired of Eye No, Alphabet St, Dance On, and Glam Slam.

I still think you'll like Lovesexy, but just don't buy into the Org hype of it being the greatest spiritually charged musical masterpiece to ever go to pressing.

If you think they should be separated then I must say you still don't get it.

It's not about getting it, cause I know Lovesexy needs to be heard straight through to really embrace its theme.

It's about not being able to skip to my fav songs on it when I don't have time to hear the whole thing.

Bought it about a year ago, listened to it once then kept it on my shelf for about 9 months. Gave it another chance and now I love it, particularly I Wish U Heaven. In my opinion his last GREAT album, but try to get the broken tracks version, as opposed to the original single track album. I treated Emancipation with similar contempt for about 2 years, but after my Lovesexy experience I've since revisited it and discovered more great Prince music.

There's a broken track version?

Really?

Indeed. The one I bought in Dublin certainly is. I thought I heard they've all been standerdised like that now, but maybe that's just Europe or certain countries.

Nope. If you have to ask a bunch of strangers if you'll like an album, then I would say you shouldn't buy it.

As Kinaldo mentioned, Yep, the tracked version it's a european thing (I have also heard the promo copies were also tracked). When I went to Italy last year I made sure to drop by a wreckasto to pick up a tracked copy. It's a beautiful thing to go straight to Lovesexy, Anna Stesia, or I wish U Heaven. You can pick up a tracked copy on ebay -- it's cost you 20 bucks or so.

i swear to God and all angels in heaven and on my life, that not only is this the best Prince album i ever heard, it's the best album i ever heard period!! I already fell in love with "Glam Slam", which is my favorite song ever, but the first time i heard Lovesexy, i was fucking blown away, and i thought to myself "My God, if i didn't love Prince before..." but i think Lovesexy is something you kinda have to be warmed up to, because if i heard Glam Slam before i heard U Got The Look or seen Purple Rain, i would've thought that Prince was some kind of androgynous weirdo..but anyway, i love how the songs flow together. I think Prince is trying to tell us something by doing that, seriously, is there a story that Lovesexy follows or tells? Oh, and to answer the question, LOVESEXY IS THE BEST ALBUM EVER!

Its always been my favourite album. I started getting into P. at the ATWIAD time.

Seen him live 4 times during the UK LoveSexy tour. Anna Stesia, the bit when the piano rises up in the air. Amazing, everyone sing "Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above - repeat to fade. Hands/lighters in the air. Used to own a yes T-Shirt till my missus wore it out.

Its still the album I listen to the most.

Makes even more sense since I learned about the Ecstacy link wink

LoveSexy the best track, imo.

"This feelings so good in every single way, I want it morning, noon and night of every day"
"Come on and touch it, I know u will love it, with it I know, heaven is just a buttefly kiss away"

yes smile

For u it's about either getting it or not getting it. For me it's about choice as opposed to no choice.

Everyone has different tastes and certain people will dislike certain tracks. Not being alllowed to skip is just an irritation.

U say I don't get it, well whatever... I love that album.[/quote]
