Prince and the Numbers Well I know how everyone LOVES to talk numbers and Soundscan, even though Im not a fan of the whole industry way of tracking things, I applaud PRINCE for his concert giveaway method mainly because it will lead to alot of other artists going this route mainly artists that are called "heritage" acts by people, I call them Talented artists who paved the way. Anyway, I have been looking at the schedule and some people have said how PRINCE will drop out the Top 10 and then jump back in when the Tour kicks up again, I seriously think everyone should pay attention to the following dates in July. Heres the deal, starting July 12-14 Prince plays NYC, the 16,18 he plays NJ and the 17th he's in Conneticut and The 20th hes in Long Island NYC, then Phillie the 22nd I believe. I think this is when PRINCE has his best shot to take number 1, All of these shows are sold out, the Garden shows in NYC will bring in about 75,000 people alone, Long island is BIG and so is New Jersey, the meadowlands. With these shows PRINCE will easily be in the 125,000 range for the shows alone, knowing his love of NYC and the Today show, dont be surprised to see him doing SOME TV too during that week to spark sales. I think if PRINCE does this it will be the longest strecth between Number 1 CDS of any Artist, Purple Rain to Musicology, basically 20 years to the day, as we know PR was there for 24 weeks. It will also be cool because I am going to all those shows in NYC, NJ, LI, CT, and phillie. I know thats alot, but hey RHONDA's there.

Interesting theory... we'll have to see if it bears out. Just one correction - It's not been 20 years between #1 albums for Prince. He had a #1 with the Batman soundtrack, which spent 6 weeks at #1 on the pop chart in 1989. So, it would only have been 15 years.
Plus, don't forget about Santana. I'm pretty sure they have the record for longest stretch between #1 albums...

True about Batman, Im not sure on the Santana thing, not sure if he had a number one album prior to Supernatural. Also Look for PRINCE to be this years SANTANA and Norah Jones at the Grammies. Seriously, I know it officially counts but the fact it went to #1 really had nothing to do with Prince. The movie made all the difference here, I think.
