I notice that everyone on here worships the GOLD EXPERIENCE album..I just cant get with it..other than "SHH!!", "Dolphin", "319", "Shy" and "I Hate You" the GOLD EXPERIENCE does nothing for me.....TRC is definitely a much better release than GOLD EXPERIENCE. What is everyone's fascination with this album? It reminds me of the album that shoulda been released after DIAMONDS AND PEARLS but before the Symbol album

The released album is, IMO, really one of his best. It makes my top ten list. However, I think the album is forever marred by the inclusion of "P Control." What a bad was to start an album.

i like this album okay, but i know some people go absolutely apeshit over it. i like several songs on TGE, but there are several songs i really find annoying on it, as well as some songs i really just gotta be in the mood for. and i really dislike the whole "npg announcer" thing. i'm glad that whole schtick didn't last long.

At the time, the whole name change thing, many of these songs on the LP were from that time 1993, and shortly after of course in 1994.

The whole name change thing, the fans that stuck around and DIDN'T get scared off by the apparent craziness of "changing" your name to an unpronouncable symbol - I think we felt rewarded/justified in sticking with Prince because there seemed to be a renewed lust/energy in the music in the songs he was recording during/after the name change.

These songs make up Come, TGE and the tracks on CB from this era - Interactive, Acknowledge Me, yadda, yadda.

The band was excellent, focused, the MC Hammer rap fluff of Tony M had gone, and it was exciting!

Hearing them on bootleg only for, what a year, (almost 2?) made the songs on TGE seem like an insider thrill - Prince, that crazy pop star who used to be cool, he'd lost it, but here were these batch of killer NEW songs that were only available on bootleg.

Then the tour of course, hearing this unreleased NEW music played live, those of us who had the bootlegs, it was, again, exciting!

The eventual release was a complete anti-climax because Prince was bored of it all by then and the promotion from Prince & WB was lacklustre. But I think TGE could have been a commercial success as big as D&P.

If only TGE received the attention/timing/etc that Musicology had.....

I don't know what's about this particular album, but I love it.

This album is just very passionate. A lot of it comes from the production- this album freakin' rocks hard. It's LOUD. It's a kind of pissed-off, edgy, dark sound that P explored in those couple of years (1993- 1995) that was just exciting and after that in the late 90s, his production seemed tame and "safe" in comparison. The Rainbow Children and the newest incarnation of the NPG was like a pleasant melding of the two sounds (the more loud, bombastic sound of the early to mid 90s- and the late 90's soft R&B sound). So, in a way, the new band offers a little something for everyone.

For me, the Gold Experience, and bits of Come, Exodus, and even Chaos and Disorder were just a great marriage of hard rock and hard funk that Prince had never quite explored before or since. He was both angry and musically enraged back then!

am I the only one who really likes pussy control? That's one of my faves on this record. I do agree it would have been killer if he opened it with days of wild

i really think that this is one of his better albums. with the exception of we march, now, and billy jack bitch(weak songs, in my opinion. i would have kept interactive and days of wild, which were to be included as far as i know) the songs are tight, and the album has a good flow to it. i think the production quality is really good, and as somebody stated earlier, the album is LOUD!!!(especially michael b. on the drums). as for the NPG operator, i like that a whole lot more than the narration of THE RAINBOW CHILDREN(which keeps me from being able to enjoy the music), and those annoying waves from COME.

I actaully think "Now" is ahead of it's time with its almost raw rap/metal melding sound! I know that Limp Biscuit and his rap/metal friends ain't popular no more but maybe prince was early on that one! Also the weird sample he uses at the beginning of track, reminds me of Limp too!

Muscially can't compare it to "TRC"! That album 4 me seems to be liked by P fans of an early 80's liking! To me it is good in places but it is not pop! And the title track is bull! Dig those Jehovah lyrics!

Now and BJB are some of the deepest funks cuts he's ever made, IMO, and Shh and Hate You two of his best slow jams. Most of it's thanks to Michael Bland,who shoulda been kept around at any cost. Funny, Dolphin and Gold are the only tracks I'm not crazy about, but otherwise, it's my favorite of that decade.

I've always tried to work out why I never listen to this album. I always go back to COME instead. I just think the whole thing is bombastic, there's no subtlety to it. The best song on it is SHY, but everyone raves about EYE HATE U, which is just fucking appalling!
