Anyone else here still adore The Truth cd?

Listened to it last night in the car and was stunned at the warmth and variety on it. His playing especially on Fascination is great . Can't understand why the usual suspects dismiss it as half baked and weak, to me its a solid and emotional accoustic cd that I would have loved to hear on an MTV unplugged. 'Comeback' stands IMHO as one his top 5.

I love this cd. Two of my favorite P cuts, Dionne and Cool as the other Side of the Pillow, are on it. music

not one of my favorites, but definitely an interesting listen. i consider it and the ONA piano album to be really nice companions for the ol' shuffle play.

Are y'all kidding?! The Truth is one of the worse things he has ever done. I was so excited when I heard that it was an acoustic Prince album but my God the songs are so poorly written and pretentious it is not even funny. The only salvagable song on the whole disc is "Don't Play Me".

But then again, I actually like Diamonds and Pearls so take my opinion with a grain of salt...

Because they have to have something to complain about. It's in their Org contract.

Hell yes, it's a tasty little album.

It's a great cd. Just listened to it the other day. Except for Animal Kingdom, every song is good.

That's funny, I really don't like The Truth, except Animal Kingdom and don't play me. The rest IMO is weak, boring material.

funkaholic, define 'weak', some of these songs have pure passion, listen to the scream and guitar build up on the Truth, the subtle bitterness / confidence of Dont play me , the sheer wit of 'one of your tears', the intracacy of Facination, the pure funk of 'man in uniform' etc. Now imagine him a couple of weeks ago sitting on that stool in New York for MTV playing these songs!.

IMO "The Truth" is an excellent CD. When I listen to it, I feel the emotion coming from each song. "Do't Play Me" is absolutely fantastic. Very personal, witty, and humorous. By the way, I also love "One Night Alone... Solo Piano and Voice by Prince".

Thank you for this thread. I love The Truth. "One of Your Tears" and "Man In A Uniform" are two of my favorite Prince tracks. I've often wondered why this album is dismissed by so many of the people on the org. I consider it one of his best all around efforts.

It was definitely an album that needed to be done.
I only wish he had made more of a true acoustic record without drum machines or synths.
Was surprised how my brother hated Fascination!
To each his own.
