I think Prince -- with his huge artistic leanings -- might fare better in foreign (as in French) cinema. I'm sure there are talented directors and filmmakers who might still love to work with him.

Some arthouse project that could give him a chance to do something different. I think he should portray someone creative -- a painter, sculptor or writer -- but not anyone musical. He's covered that territory already, and it's what would be expected.

But, I think a well-written, well-directed vehicle by a French filmmaker (I mean, gosh, throw Binoche in for good measure, and I'm THERE) might do P some good.

And, I think, to help promote the film, he should release Roadhouse Garden.

Haha!

Yes CALHOUN, Singleton is a one hit wonder...BOYZ IN DA HOOD.

Every else he's done sucks. (Esp. HIGHER LEARNING;that was moronic and infantile) Furthermore, his "donkey balls" should be castrated for that horrid remake of SHAFT: got him going around shooting up Puerto Ricans! Man! SHAFT shoots up the Mob and crooked cops.. Not the PEOPLE!!

Prince needs to be cast in a movie that has nothing to do with music for him to be taken seriously.

I think he can do a convincing job as a mentally ill character. (No diss I'm fo'real) wink

Ok..I'm game for this question, and since I like to pretend like I'm a writer, I would love to write a movie for Prince.lol lol It would be along the lines of him meeting a love interest who has nothing to do with music. She would be a writer or painter, There would be a mutual exchange of creativity and enlightenment between them and..... well I'll save the script for Prince LOL smile

DavidEye: read above quote, though I dare say Poetic Justice was even more pathetic than Higher Learning if that's even possible. Baby Boy was a travesty, Rosewood should have gone to a skilled director - the dude just SUCKS. Boyz was great, but that's as good as he gets until proven otherwise. Consider my plot proposals.....

***Prince plays the CEO/owner of the hottest record company in the biz.The thing is,he takes females who can barely sing, sleeps with them, and makes them huge stars. He makes alot of money and is a true playa. He goes out to nightclubs and women shower him with demo tapes. All of his female "artists" are really successful, and his life is perfect. But then,he sees a beautiful talented female singer in a club, and tries to get her attention. But guess what? She already has a ton of record labels trying to sign her! She is no bimbo, she is a strong, determined woman who is not impressed by Prince.Prince tries to win her over, and the film becomes a hilarious romantic comedy. In this film,Prince can also squeeze in a subplot about the evils of the record companies.

***Prince plays a music teacher at a ghetto high school.Years ago,he was a successful jazz musician, but must now work as a teacher in a run-down school just to make ends meet. His students are hip-hop loving kids who have never heard of Miles Davis! Prince must teach them to make REAL music, and show them that there's more to music than just samples and cussing. There could be a subplot with Prince falling in love with another teacher. At the end of the school year,Prince tries to organize a huge benefit concert with the students performing.(Just think....the soundtrack could be jazzy, with all-new Prince songs!)

What do you guys think?? Should I send these proposals to Paisley Park? wink

#2 sounds like a ripoff of that RICHARD DREYFUSS flick where he was a music teacher. Oh yeah, MR HOLLAND's OPUS. That really wasn' too bad, but there was a major diference: RICHARD DREYFUSS CAN ACT; PRINCE CAN'T.

Funny that your avater is from the best Prince movie ever made and you ask this question,

Sign of the times live is probably one of the best rock concert movies ever made, even my dad was totally blown away by! yeah...The music and showmanship that the man exposes the viewer to is simply awesome and very rare. The movie is also put together well with a simple stroy line and it's worth a great night of entertainment.

Lovesexy live is also fantastic, you think he couldn't put a terrific show again within a year? Yes he can!

I like Purple Rain, i think it is a very good music film with very good music, the film isn't boring for a second and has a simple storyline, what makes it accesible to a large audience. The film and the music made him an international superstar.

I also like Under the Cherry Moon, but I can understand why it doesn't sell to a large audience.
Graffiti Bridge was a painfully attempt to a "Purple Rain the sequel" the music doesn't compensate the flaws in the film.
These kind of attempts are always doomed to fail. Purple Rain was then and since he is best at making and performing great music he should release a concert video/dvd from the One nite alone tour now of course.
You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

Pfunkjazz...you are correct. My second plot does kinda resemble that Richard Dreyfuss film. And,my first plot was obviously "inspired" by the Eddie Murphy film 'Boomerang'( you know,a story about a "playa" who gets played...lol....).So,I'll think of a few others:)

***Prince plays a jazz musician who plays in a popular New York bar and nightclub. But,the bar is sold and the new owner is a sexy, charming young lady! The bar was bought for her as a Wedding present from her wealthy husband....who just happens to be a Mafia king!! Prince and the "new owner" begin a steamy affair, and their lives spiral outta control. There is also a subplot about the other bandmembers getting hooked into the Mafia lifestyle. Will Prince and his lady escape the clutches of her evil husband? How will this dilemna affect Prince's music and songwriting throughout the film? And what is the TRUE story of the bar being sold, and just what happened to the original owner??

***Prince plays a popular music producer/songwriter who has been asked to score a major motion picture. While visiting the set,he becomes involved with the movie's star. She is a drug-taking,booze-drinking,unhappy celebrity whose life is falling apart. Will Prince help her get her life back on track,as he falls in love with her? What about her husband, who is also the producer of the film?! There is also a potent subplot about the phoniness of the Hollywood/movie star lifestyle, and how it all clashes with the music world.

***Prince plays a DJ in a popular nightclub. He's been a DJ for years, and he is sick of it.He wants fame and fortune. He is a musician who never made it.This changes when he finally gets a recording contract with a major label.Problem is,the label is run by the Mafia! Should he stay there and become a huge star and make lotsa money? Or,will his conscience make him do the right thing and "expose" this illegal operation? And,if he does, will his life in danger? There is a subplot about Prince falling for another artist on the same label, who has her own set of problems and insecurities.

Yeah,I know these aren't exactly brilliant but give me points for trying...lol....let's see YOU guys come up with soem plot ideas!

Not that your ideas aren't good or even "brilliant". Any of them might work, to get a project "greenlighted", but they're based on the flawed concept of Prince as an actor. This has always resulted in a a cheesy vanity project. In a movie, I'd much prefer to see actor play a musician. I get no joy out of seeing actors like Bruce Willis or Andy Garcia doing music at a layman's level, so why should I acccept Prince in movies?

Ms

I always thought Prince coulda played Leroy in Fame with a musicians edge! Can you imagine Prince's hair in braids and plats? lol.

Prince coulda been the raw neighborhood thug who makes it into the School of The Arts as a musician, that woulda been awesome and Prince's age woulda been right for 1978 etc to fit in as a high schooler!

There coulda been a love scene between Prince and Irene Cara! Hot!

Just to see him in that movie with all his synthesizers all around him would abeen cool! Esp for the audition scene!!

Peace!

Ok are ready for this....

Prince should do a Spike Lee Flick abot Sammy Davis Jr.

Yep.. I think if there were anyone tat could understand the dynamics of Sammy, it would be Prince.

He also respects SPike Lee and would probably give him control. He also need to do something that would stretch him. ... that's why GB was bad, Prince thought he could just fluff through it and it would be good. never mind the bad story line or anyhting else. He needs to be challange by someone so he can step up and excell.

What a waste. A SAMMY DAVIS flick would be great, but I think DON CHEADLE is a shoo-in for an expanded role like this. HE was the sole saving grace of the HBO flick on the RAT PACK a while back. Again, get an actor to do an actor's job; not a musician

davideye.. ur second idea is da shizznit.. his pupils could be bored shitless by his theorys bout jazz,classical.. old styles etc..
and one could find out he used 2 be a funk artist in a nearby city and they could really dig his old music so it brings them 2 his new stuff... and there is something traumatic that happened 2 bring him round 2 the way he is now

But that One Night Alone DVD sure sounds tempting wink

definitely!!!! But it should definitely be a supporting role of some sort, something where he is so not Prince. Like in an urban comdey, or a spike lee film. He's a very funny guy and i think that side of him should be shown.

How about: GOD and the PRINCE of darkness

Kevin Smith directs a black comedy about the war between GOD (played of course by Alanis Morrisette) and LUCIFER (played by Prince). They use music to brainwash their followers into believing their doctrines. Each tries to out do the other but as the movie progresses the down and dirty funk of Prince mutates into jazzy gospelly TRC type music while Alanis' music becomes angrier and more hateful.

By the end of the film they have swapped places.

What does it mean? I don't know, this is just for fun!!!!
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

How about this....

***Prince plays a bored musician with no direction. His new music bores him,his record sales have slipped, and he has no new inspiration. He is sick of being a "star".What does he do? He decides to change his appearance and travel the world. He donates all his money to charity, gets rid of his record contract, and decides to start life all over as a "normal person" (this means we will see Prince in jeans,no heels or make-up).The movie shows him traveling the world for one whole year.Nobody recognizes him,or knows that he is a once-famous celebrity. He gets the chance to fall in love with a woman who loves him for who he is,NOT for his money and fame.He makes friends with people who genuinely like him for HIM,not just because of his notoriety. He gets to live a REAL life for once.At the end of the movie,he exposes himself and decides to make music again. How will his new lover react to being betrayed? How will his new music sound now that he has seen "the real world" for once? What lessons does he learn at the end of the film? Can he truly go back to being a "star" again?

In the past,Prince has often toyed with the idea of alter egos.In this film,he adopts the ultimate "alter ego",that of a real person with no pretentions. What do you guys think of this movie idea?
