Are N.E.W.S. and Xpectation better post-Musicology?

Is it just me, or are N.E.W.S. and Xpectation better post-Musicology?

I guess I just didn't give these discs a chance when they were released. I wanted to hear melodies and pop music... Now that Prince has shown that he still "has it," it has made my ears more open to his other more recent outings. I'm digging N.E.W.S. especially...

i always liked them.

why would they be better post-musicology? that might indicate that musicology isn't as good and in my opinion it's better.

I agree Musicology is better. I guess what I mean is that my "xpectations" were satisfied with Musicology, and that has allowed me to enjoy the other two discs more.

Reminds me of the first time I saw Star Wars: Episode I. I had 15 years of expectations in my head the first time I saw it. I hated it... After I saw it a second time, I liked it...because my expectations were gone.

Am I making any sense?

I'm liking NEWS more as well. Put it in when trying to go to sleep or during a lovemaking session...fits either mood well. biggrin

I dont mind Xpectations though cos it has melodies at least.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

All three are of a lower standard and were mainly group effort with other musicians
Prince had a good run at being the best 1981-1999
He still has it on stage as an instrumentalist

It is all a matter of taste and after Prince recordings from 1986-1988 i began to enjoy listening to jazz, from jazzrock, jazzfusion to -only when im really open minded - the free jazz from ornette colemann
You guessed it, for me NEWS is a masterpiece from P. OK, it isn´t music that you can hear all day long, imo it is more to explore it with headphones, having fun to hear something with a real musical impact.
You can feel that the musicians played with joy and their ambition to work out something special, you can hear all these beeps and percussion and instrumental lines in the second, third, fourth row that you hear and find out maybe after years of listening to it and think to yourself - wow, he has effervescenting musical treasure and he´s the master of arrangements. That´s the feeling i got listening to especially to Parade, SOTT and Lovesexy to date and that´s why im a P.-music-lover.

My opinion is unchanged.

Xpectation is the dog's bollocks.

N.E.W.S. is the dog's shitty anus.
