GeSmi1 said: SynthiaRose said: You read my mind. But let me say it again: HELL NO! This film has not aged well. The performances kick ass, but the misogyny and chauvinism are repulsive. I cringe now when I watch some parts of this movie and did even when I was a little girl. Plus, the whole 80s androgny act would fall flat these days and make him more of a joke (despite the ultra-cool motorcycle scenes) Get over it! You know Prince doesn't feel that way towards women...I think the movie fit the song "When Doves Cry"...so crying over the misogyny and chauvinism is just as unreal as the fictional story that was made into a Motion Picture...thus, Purple Rain. Dang Sharang! GeSmi1 Got any rational thoughts to go with these histrionics?

Warner Bros would be stupid not to capitalize on this 20th anniversary of Purple Rain, just when a new generation of Prince listeners can put this movie back on top of the box-office!!!!!
If it was up to me, HECK YEAH!!!!! "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Yes!
I remember several years ago when "Grease" was re-released in theatres and how much fun it was to see it on the big screen again. It took me right back to the summer of '78,when I saw it several times in theatres.Prince is "hot" right now so I bet a re-release of "Purple Rain" would do pretty good business right now.It would also be cool if there was a remastered "Purple Rain" CD that could be given away to those who buy tickets to see it,lol.

Would anyone go to see a re-release of Flashdance? That's how normal people would view a re-release of PR.

KatSkrizzle said: THey remade Purple Rain....it was called 8 Mile Yep, and it was a much better movie. Not a big M fan or anything, and I avoided seeing it for a long time. The plot is just 75% Purple Rain and 25% Saturday Night Fever. But there's a lot more filmmaking skill behind 8 Mile. A lot less performance, though. For nostaligia's sake, PR is fine. I'm getting the urge to see it again myself, as well as UTCM. But that can happen just fine at your midnight movie madness type events. New DVD, fine. But to roll the thing out as a re-release is something that a film of this quality simply doesn't warrant. What kind of extra material is the DVD supposed to have? Every now and then

I'll buy the DVD with bonus footage too If they release it in theaters fine, but I really am hoping that they will release the uncut version on DVD with extra bonus features. I've seen the regular version so much I never thought I'd get tired of seeing it.

I'll put i to you this way: If the Warners actually do decide to re-release the flick, then I'll definitely go see it, for nostalgia's sake.
A lot of people seem to be complaining about the movie being outdated, but so what??? I mean THIS IS PRINCE WERE TALKING ABOUT!!!!! HELLLLOOOOO!!!!! This is our hero on the big screen. Anyways, other folks are complaining about the misogyny and violence. Well.....it's just a movie, right? I mean it's like Prince said in that interview, "violence is something that occurs everyday. I didn't write Purple Rain." So come down too hard on the brother. He was just simply playing a character. Anyways, if the movie is re-released, I'm there.
