For a while now I have been certain that the lyrics for most of the tracks on The Rainbow Children refer to the negative relationship Prince ended up in with Mayte followed by the positive relationship Prince found himself with Mani...

ie She Loves Me 4 Me is definitely about Mani and that kind of marks a turning point on the album (which is a concept album anyway). All the songs prior to that are talking about banished ones and being the Muse to The Pharoah (having his offspring etc) and then the album lightens up a bit and goes off at a tangent talking about other subjects that are unrelated to the religious stuff like Family Name.

Yep. the part where it goes that the wise one hoped that the Lord would 1 day send him another who loved him so, is probs about losing Mayte's love & looking out 4 Mani's

i was just thinking the same thing this morning, but about musicology. i'm beginning to hear it as a coherent playing-out of this entire drama...

MightBQueen that's interesting, hadn't thought of that. Will have to listen to the lyrics more carefully. Anything in particular crossing your mind?

suffice to say, i see some continuity.

The album is about Mayte and Mani, it's about Prince's relation with WB and it's about the JW beliefs in my opinion.

I also think A Million Days is about Mayte.

So, I agree that Musicology is about both of them but I don't think it's chronological order... Surely, Call My Name is about Mani.

I've always compared the characters of the Rainbow Children to Prince, Mayte, and Mani...it also sounds a lot like Adam, Lillith, and Eve.
